View Full Version : Handbrake only acting on 1 wheel

A couple of months ago the travel in my handbrake lever increased a lot. I put this down to cable stretch or brake pad wear. However, at the weekend I had the car on axle stands (for fuel filter change) and noticed my handbrake is only acting on the rear nearside wheel.

Before I start taking off exhaust heat shield and stuff to access the cables, does anyone have any ideas where the failure is most likely to be. Perhaps the link to the brake calliper at the wheel itself?

Any suggestions greatfully appreciated.

Similar problem on my 1995 A4 2.6 quattro, (222000 mls) disconnected passenger side cable @ the brake caliper found that cable was seized. New UniPart cable (from Partco in the UK) fitted problem cured.
Cable is awkward to fit, trim around hand brake lever has to be removed, fit string to cable end @ hand brake lever, this makes it easier to pull the new cable through.
The new cable can be fitted without removing the heat shield, although it helps to bend the shield for better access

Thanks for that. That's an impressive mileage on your 2.6 by the way! Just goes to show Audi's will run and run if well maintained.

Mines going in for MOT on Monday so I'll either have a look at the handbrake this weekend or be lazy and let the local garage fix it!!!

Cheers
