Hi, Have an S Reg A4 and the Protective rubber strips at bottoms of doors that are held on by mild steel clips have rust badly are disintegrating and I have already lost one. SOme of the clips have gone and some of the groove on the strip has disintergrated as well. Does anyone know how to reattach them? Many Thanks Lenny

The plastic clip is held onto the door by a little metal stud and I have never seen one of those studs fail. The normal solution is a new set of clips and rubber strip.

Thanks Crasher, so a new set of clips then from Audi. Are the old ones difficult to remove?

Once the strip is off (don’t forget the self taper at the front of the front door trim, accessed from inside and below the lower hinge) and the clips just open up and come off. They are part number 8D0 853 909 B and cost £0.51 each.

Thanks Crasher (again), I'm happy with the clips TVM, but if the strip has corroded where the clips clip in, would it mean a new strip? I bet that Audi dont do them anymore. Lenny

had a set on mine for a year now and all rubber is as good as new and fixings are all still nice and firm, made the car look about five years younger than it did with the old ones half on half off...

Thanks DH, I take it that they are easy to fix on?

yeah about as simple as a job can be on car, (short of washing it maybe?)

in the inside front lower corner of each door is a small screw, which stops the strips sliding back or forwards, these are self tapping and probably rusted in place, so give them some WD40 and leave for a few minutes before trying to get them out. they'll also need gentle levering (with a flat bladed screwdriver) from under the head to get the thread to grip initially as the top of the shank is blank. (this is intentional so they can't rattle themselves loose)

once they're out the strip can be slid off its fixing clips, keep hold of the clips you'll nedd to use them on the new strips! (mine were so deteriorated they pretty much just fell off, but they are designed to slide off, i can't remember if its to the front or the rear tho)

the clips fit over a row of studs along the lower edge of the door and need aligning to follow the same line, you'll see what i mean when you get there.... recover any clips that are still in the metal rail on the back of the old strips and clip them back over the studs on the base of the door.

slide the new strips in place and secure with the screws in the corner and you're done.:beerchug:

when i did mine some idiot had tried fixing the old ones in place with silicone sealant so i had to gingerly scrape it all off the paintwork before getting the new ones on. some people!:zx11:

That's great DH. I only need the 2 rear ones so I have asked VAG.

This what they said "Thanks for the enquiry we can supply the trims individually our price will be £10.42+vat each shipping on a pair will be £6.95"

i took the view that if two had gone, then the others probably weren't going to last to much longer and did them all at the same time.

regarding the price, there was a rip off merchant selling them on ebay for £80+p&p for a set around the time i did mine.

Thank you both for this thread - It's almost exactly what I have been searching for!
Two quick questions:
1. Should this trim be the same for a 1998 Avant as well?
2. Do you happen to know the part number for the strip?
Thank you!

Just give vagcom a ring. And i reckon they should be the same.

Ok guys,

I'm also changing the rubber strips on my A4.

The strips seem to be so damn tight, and its only 8mm away from being in place ....but stuck! I cant get it further on nor off....:(

Have you got any bright ideas ?

Ok, so a rubber club and some grease fixed the problem.
A bit afraid I was going to hit the new strips to pieces though...

:beerchug:

Thanks for the inspiration anyway! :biglaugh:
