I finished the upgrade to Power Folding Door Mirrors yesterday. In addition to the standard features of electric adjust, and heaters I get downlight, auto dim on drivers' side, and of course the power folding.
It's not auto-power folding i.e. keys in IGN on and they fold out. Or the reverse for keys out/lock. Auto power folding is available on the CC I believe, with 3c8 series control modules. Folding mirrors can't be added into the convenience menu in your MFA on the B6.

If you've got the patience (and the OCD!) to search through scrapyards and for sale forums, eventually you'll find them. I got the two mirror units complete with switch for £150. I swapped my old modules/window winder motors for the uprated power folding capable ones which also came from a B6 '06MY:

Install isn't too bad. Getting the door cards off is a pain though. Remove side armrests and unplug. Start by removing the two bottom bolts that go up recessed through doorcard. Using a large plastic lever starting at the opening side, lever between metal of door inner and doorcard and unclip as you go around door card leaving the top two until last so as you can lift the card vertically. You can then reach in to free the door release lever hook from door opener lever, and loom plugs.
You will break some of the brackets. And some of the plastic plugs too. They're 48p each from VW p/n 6Q0 868 243. Any fractured brackets can be repaired by plastic weld or superglue leaving 48 hours to set. Some of the plugs will be stuck in their brackets. They can be removed with a wire coat hanger wrapped around then a sharp tug to release. Who designed this? :mad:

You can change the shell/cap of the mirrors you find with your old ones in correct colour. Or get either another shell in primer, or your own colour, from VW spares. Or just mask and spray.

To remove mirror there's three holding bolts under the treble speaker cover that has to be removed first. Then a spigot that disengages from a plastic housing. With the long lead disconnected, it will thread through the cable gland.

Power Folding Mirrors - Info Sheet
================ ========
Relevent hardware needs to be installed. Audi's have a "per key" setting. If one key is used to
setup, then the other won't work the power Folding mirrors until that too is setup.
----------------------------------
The "puddle light" (downlight) in the mirrors' stalk only operates when light sensor is active.

For the Passat CC power folding mirrors are installed for free if memory seats are specified when car is ordered new.
as a factory-fitted option. (Can this be confirmed for UK buyers or is this a US-only sales package?)
----------------------------------
The 1k0 controller part numbers are Golf prefixes. Quite a few Golf parts are used in the Passat
B6. 5k0 is a Golf MkVI prefix. Not all Golf MkV controller suffixes are four door, some are two
door only. ETKA has a listing. Common Golf VCDS codings are: drivers' - 4790, pax - 5046. Another
poster with "AL" and "N" controllers uses drivers' - 694, and pax - 950
----------------------------------

Not all door controllers will accept power Folding mirrors. But those different controllers arn't identifiably
listed in ETKA between power Folding and just electric adjust/heating only. These are the available suffix
letters, market, and cars that will support power Folding mirrors:

K Gen 2 Min Golf, Jetta (tested on my Passat B6, did not perform power fold)
L Gen 2 Max ROW Jetta, Golf Jetta 5/05-6/06, Golf 6/05-5/06
L Gen 2 Max NAR Jetta, Golf (all) 10/05->
L Gen 2 Max ROW, NAR Passat 3/05-5/06 (used on my B6's upgrade power fold works)
There are some wiring differences between these two generations. See the MyGTI link below for
details: a four wires' move on the controller for the central locking. And a three wires' move for the
window button
M Gen 3 Min
N Gen 3 Max ROW Golf 5/06-> (2007 in VIN)(Z77 or Z72 options are 6XG)
Q Gen 3 Max ROW Jetta, Golf Variant, NAR Jetta Wagon 7/06-> (2007 in VIN)
Q Gen 3 Max ROW, NAR Passat 5/06-> (2007 in VIN)
AG " (unknown)(Z0X, Z0Y, Z1R versions OK) (VW price for info: £167 each +VAT)
AL " "

The features supported (subject to revision letter) by these controllers are:
Rear Lid Remote Unlock Button (E233)
Ambient Mirror Illumination (downlight)
Mirror Turn Signals (repeater)
Interior Door Handle Illumination Installed
Automatic Run Active
Mirror Heater Installed (set by timer, not a thermistor)
Door Exit Warning Light Installed (the red lights at door bottom)
5-Door Chassis (four doors & tailgate)

Right Hand Drive
Safe-Motor not installed
Pinch Protection inactive
Folding Mirrors installed ('08MY+ with Gen 3 controller)
Manually Operated Convertible Top installed (not Gen 2)
Start/Stop Function installed ('10MY+ with Gen 3 controller)

These are the option codes for wing mirrors as shown in Golf coding stickers:
6XC = Exterior mirrors: electrically adjustable
6XN = Exterior mirrors: electrically adjustable, separately heated
6XG = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, electrically adjustable/heated
6XT = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, automatically dimming, electrically foldable/adjustable, separately heated

Some work in 2007 had been done on early controllers (3B) to convert them to power Folding capable.
This involves adding a missing IC to the PCB (it's a 6208-3G). And some binary eprom code re-coding.

An '06MY with power Folding mirrors gives the same part #s but with an "L" suffix letter. Latest
dealer ETKA (Jul'14) also gives same part # with "L" with a software revision 038 (driver side) and
042 (pax side) Software version numbers are on the stickey label of the unit, not shown in VCDS.
No "Foldable mirrors installed" option is listed in VCDS for GEN2 controllers.
+0004096 is the listed option to add when coding a GEN3 controller.

These codings show original doner car didn't have exit lights fitted to the doors (+000064)

There is a Folding Mirrors option to enable in VCDS for Gen 3 controllers. This option isn't there
for Gen 2 controllers, although Gen 2 (MAX2) controllers provide power folding.

VCDS has measurment block 3 channel 3 (Mirror Folding Switch) to check operation.

Dealer spares says the window winder/controller on the window motor is not seperately available.
An '06MY with power Folding mirrors installed has 1k0 959 793 H for drivers side, and 1k0 959 792 H
for pax side. These are the controllers that arn't available seperately from VW. If you need

Coding Generation 2 Drivers' Side Using VCDS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only difference between the coding for a non-power folding and a power folding controller is the
downlight (ambient lighting) value 2. Some cars don't have door exit warning lights installed
value=64. So that value would have to be added. Values for a non-folding mirror capable drivers'
module (K Min2) total 757 as they don't have a downlight (+000002). Values for a power Folding
mirror capable drivers' module (L Max2) total 759:
Right Hand Drive model 512
Five door 128
Exit warning light 64
Mirror heating 32
Autorun 16
Mirror turn signals 4
Downlight (ambient) 2
Rear lid remote 1
===
= Coding = 0000759
===
The Passenger side is coded 0000758 because there is no rear lid remote on that door. (+0000001)
There is no coding option for a GEN2 controller for drivers' side auto-dimming wing mirror. That's
wired directly from your auto-dimming rear view mirror when switched on. To test, put finger over
light sensor hole on rear left side of mirror. In 15 secs or so, you should see the drivers' wing
mirror change to be noticeably darker with a band of un-dimmed mirror all the way round outer mirror
edge. You can recognise a auto-dimming rear view mirror by it's slightly yellow band around edge.
ECS in the US charge $422 +s&h for a heated auto-dimming rear view mirror glass for the B6. :1zhelp:
The downlights are standard W5W bulbs. Changed mine for 2-SMD LEDs. You really need 5-SMD for decent road illumination of where you're going to step.
Fitted two off each side Red LEDs in parallel with the mirror heater supply. Used Maplins's A40CY lens LEDs 12V 20mA with resistor and trailing leads pre-prepared and shrink wrapped £7.49 inc. for a four-pack:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/prism-car-interior-4-micro-leds-red-4-pack-a40cy
Remove mirror first by adjusting fully inward then very gently fingers under outer edge and slowly lever outward with folded blanket or similar underneath on ground -- just in case. ECS want a kidney for a replacement heated, auto-dimming mirror alone. The backing plate hooks into a plastic holder.
There are two spade connectors for the 12V heater supply that will be corroded on. If you have auto-dimming there's also a plastic clip-locked plug to de-clip and remove. Spray with Servisol or similar (Maplins's N61AN) before attempting removal to free any dried car wash soap.
I soldered the leads of two LEDs' in paralell to the heat wires' connectors (Black/red +ve, Black -ve for a change!) then tucked the wires around the back of the plastic holder to allow for the holder to swivel adjust without being hindered. You can only place the LEDs about ½" close to the mirrors' edges without fouling their movement. I used masking tape across the holder initially to gauge position the illumination effect. Lens's should point toward mirror edges -- one at side, one at top of each mirror. And will superglue in position later.
These 20mA LEDs' brightness are just enough to illuminate the inner edge of the mirrors' dishes in daylight without being distracting. At night they illuminate through the edge of the mirror which glows when the mirrors' heaters are on
Each mirror's heating element measures about 5 Ohms, so about 2½A each when running. They only get current when the engine's running. You can use larger 50mA LEDs but didn't see any at Maplins with series resistor and leads already prepared. And you run the risk of them being distracting when on.
There's also a mod for 20mA LED illuminated interior door handles. But didn't fancy taking the door cards off again to fit, what with those convenient clips
Hi Richard. I am trying to upgrade a mk6 at the moment to power folding mirrors. I am a bit confused as I have fitted both mirrors with motors and a switch. I have programmed both door controllers but only the passenger one folds. I plugged the drivers one into the passenger control module and it works (out when switched in and in when switched out). I can't understand why the drivers doesn't work as the wiring is obviously there and there are pins in the controller? Do you think I need different controller or what is this about adding an ic to the PCI? Any info appreciated.
Not a Golf head here but from what I remember (it was last year!) the two platforms Golf MkV and Passat B6 are similar in many but not all respects. I don't know all of the components or coding you'd need for Golf MkVI
If your pax mirror folds but driver's doesn't do you have independent mirrors' operation switched on or off in your MFD? Most awkwardly I found that it had to be switched off for both folding otherwise only one would fold when the drivers' fold switch was operated. This means that when you try and reset your mirrors' reflective angles both move instead of how you really want: adjustment selected by the switch each independently.
Have you changed the switch too?
Thanks for the reply. I will check the individual settings I am sure at present they are set to synchronised. Yes I did replace the switch. There is also a delay of about 20 seconds after you turn the switch back out before the passenger mirror folds back out (it folds in immediately)?
The mirrors were set together but unfortunately changing them to individual makes no difference
If both the mirrors work on pax side then there's something wrong in the wiring or controller/motor in the drivers' side.
Do you have auto dimming internal rear view mirror?
What is your original and then changed coding for the drivers' side controller?
Post your Autoscan so we can see if there's is fault being reported by controller?
There may be more informed people in the Golf MkVI forum as here's Passat B6 2005-2010.
I see that Crasher is helping you out there so don't want to cross what information he's offering... But regarding wiring, on the B6 all the wiring was there because I had the auto-dim rear view mirror. This is needed. If you don't have one of those you may be missing some wires. Again, can't say how the MkVI is wired up.
I took my control modules/motor units and mirrors from a B6 scrappy AFAICR '08MY. Where did you get your parts from?
BTW, the part about adding an IC in my help .doc was for B5/B5.5
