Passat B6 2.0 Tdi Limp Mode problem - Full VCDS scan results included

Hi Guys,

I have had my Passat for nearly a year and have not got to the bottom of this problem yet. A friend has just scanned the car for me and below are the results. I have replaced the Boost pressure sensor and parking brake button in the last couple of weeks.

It will sometimes go for weeks without a problem, then it will either go into limp mode randomly while driving - or sometimes start up in limp more. If you restart the car it usually comes back out of limp mode.

You need to clear everything. Go for at least 4 drives (ignition on-drive-ignition off). and then scan again. Otherwise you don't know which faults are current or just old stored faults.

I'd suspect the turbo veins being stuck will be your eventual culprit if it happens when you either flat out it off the line or it goes limp trying to gun it at speed.

Ok, I have reset all the fault codes and been out for a drive, I pulled over 5 or 6 times and turned off the ignition - then started and set off again. (Car went into limp mode about 400 yards from home), then was fine after the next time I stopped/re-started.

Go into your CAN gateway and untick the trailer module as its not present

that will clear 69 and 19.

This one can be a pain. Every time you start the engine the ecu is checking the boost pressure sensor against the atmospheric pressure (altitude) sensor. They must match. Yours don't match hence the fault code. With luck you need a new boost sensor. Keep your fingers crossed because you don't want a faulty atmospheric pressure sensor.

I replaced that about a week ago, but still no different. What would you try next? Any idea on the part number and location of the atmospheric pressure sensor?

There isn't a replaceable atmospheric pressure sensor. It's built into the ecu. I would start looking for damaged wiring. You may have to check and clean the ecu pins or get someone to do it for you. Lets hope it isn't a sensor failure. To be fair, it usually isn't.
