Hi guys,

It seems that my beloved car developed today, out of nowhere a problem.
This morning I left to work at about 9 o'clock and as you know, the snow in Bham is about 5-10 cm tall on the side streets. I managed to get out without any help and got to work in no time. Did not have any problems.
I parked and I have put the parking break on and left the car for 9 hours there.
When I got back, I have put the ignition (low fuel beep), fastened the seat belt started the engine and released the parking break(with the foot on the break). The pedal became softer and I started driving. After 300m, I picked up some speed and a huge rattle started. I stopped and cleared all the snow blocking the wheel arches.
Started driving again, same problem... I stopped at the gas station, inflated the tyres and left. The same rattle, very loud and it moves the entire car.
When I accelerate you barely feel it, but when I reach 30-35mph and stop accelerating the rattle and the sound becomes very loud.

I stopped in front of the house and took one of my mates for a drive, maybe if he hears it, he might have a clue.
Followed the same procedure at starting the car, same rattle. I got to the petrol station again, looked at the arches, did some more cleaning, the suspension seems fine.
The petrol station is uphill and I was concerned with the problem, started the car, moved 20m, I had to brake to give way and forgot to press the clutch and engine died.
I started it up again and I got the ESP error, followed by a short 2 second Electronic Parking Break error (it was the parking break sign and 2 lightnings on the side) and both disappeared.
I tried going backwards, the same problem. When I was coming back home, I accelerated to 40mph and the car was taking the corner to the left all by herself.
Parked the car, fired the laptop, started reading the forum... EPB might be stuck. Can be unstuck by applying the EPB while moving.
Got back to the car, started moving, pulled the handbrake the car stopped in a couple of meters, doing the annoying beep. Did this a couple of times, it still rattles.

I looked at this video: Electro-Mechanical Parking Brake (EPB), rear brake pad service - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHJMI4QkSy8) and it looks like a tricky job, but the worst part is Monday I have to go to London.
Now I have parked it on another street without the handbrake, just left in 1st gear.

I know it's a long post, but I am a noob and I try to be as explicit as possible.

Do you have any ideas guys? What can I do?
PLEASE HELP me!:aargh4::aargh4::aargh4:

You definitely need a fault code scan.

Paul Barls is in Birmingham and is a regular member - http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php?161154-Paul-Barls

I have sent a private message to Pigeon, tsunami and Paul, maybe one of them can help me, it looks like they live in birmingham, pretty close to me (don't want to risk bending the pads)
Thanks Chris for the fast response. If anyone had a similar problem and have any ideas, please let me know!

I will read the codes this evening so they can be posted here.

I Want to thank Paul for driving to my house and reading the fault codes. Great guy, cheers mate!:beerchug:
After he left, went for a test drive, same problems.
He did not erase the fault codes, so I still have them on the computer.

I have deleted the No Fault ones, left just the problems...
If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated!

Here they are:

Okay you seem to have a brake light out (high one), a failing battery, something wrong with your CD player, a failing alarm horn and obviously the handbrake problem.

00532 - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00532)

As the error only appears in the handbrake When found in an individual control module, it's most likely a local source (e.g. wiring/connectors).

Hi,

I don't think your CD/media player has anything wrong... that is just a media error... ie disc had a read error... its an old fault, fault frequency (occurrence) only 2...

Your battery IMO would need further checks to say failing... all the battery faults are happening on same day (31/12/2012), looking at the time stamps a drain must have been happening at that time and the battery regulation module started intervening... perhaps you were using electrical items without engine running? did that battery low sign come up in DIS?

As to bulb (M25), time stamp old (Date: 2013.02.23) Fault Frequency: 2... fault says an intermittent fault perhaps a connection loose?

Your alarm horn only 1 fault frequency... like fault says an intermittent fault.... time stamp = Date: 2013.03.05 Time: 20:09:55

These are the two things which IMO are related to your current issue...

There is a thread which may have info will have a nose at it to see what it says... perhaps the original poster of that may see yours and chime in or another comment...

I remember the battery problem on the 31/12, but I think it's fixed now as I did not have such issues since.

It's still the same problem with the brakes or whatever is happening: when driving, I can hear a lot of noise from the back, it's still pulling to the left.
Last night after Paul came by and read the codes, I followed a friend's advice and put some hot water on all 4 wheels, but no luck.

I will call the RAC tomorrow and see how it goes. The only mystery for me is: in the morning it had no problems, when I left work in the evening sounded like the entire back part was ripped apart and put back with duck tape.

Thank you guys for the help, but before I work on the break lights or see what's wrong with the battery, I need to get this fixed.

The thread I thought which may help is not the same fault as yours :Blush2: ...

Did a bit of googling for "ABS Brakes 00532 - Supply Voltage B+" ... varied posts/info, some read it could be a corroded fuse, malfunctioning relay, etc,etc... you'd need to check things like that... as faults says 1 Fault Found: 00532 - Supply Voltage B+ 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent its a lack of voltage its detecting IMO...

Module 03: ABS Brakes is logging fault first... module 53: Parking Brake is registering fault after, going by the time stamps...

So going by how you say car pulling to the left have you jacked up car and checked if wheels are locking? even without jacking up discs must be hotter on side which locking occurring...

Try a PM to A8 Tech... sorry no more info :Blush2: ...

There is no fault on the car...
They tried to steal my wheels, took down all the bolts, got to the locking one, could not open it, so they left with 1 bold and did not screw the rest back, just gave them a few twists. They tried it on all 4 of them, so that is why the entire car was shaking and pulling to the left.

Lucky me, there's no problem with the breaks, but I am worried of what could have happened if the wheels came off while I was driving as they were hold securely only in 1 bolt.
That day I parked on Broad Street, one of the main roads in Birmingham City Center.

Would you advise me to call the police, maybe they have cameras in that area?
Anyway, thank you very much: Gupsterg, Chris, Paul !

glad to hear that you got to the root of the problem bud, shame to hear the little scroats have tried to rob the wheels....

I hate them' lot !

I was almost about to post, that you really need to get a wheel off & have a visual, as it may have been self evident...

I would say that you still need to check the inner arch liners & check the disc face for any chattering / od wear marks, as the wheels may have been bashing your hub faces pretty hard !

I would also say that you should replace the 2 rear locking wheel bolts & check their threads as they would have taken a hammering & are probably slightly damaged.

Glad you are ok though :beerchug:

My car kind of returned to the same problem and last Friday, right before leaving from Bham to Luton, I got the flashing lights on the handbrake and although it wasn't on, the car could not leave. After a few tries, the brake was released and the error disappeared. Got home safe, the drive was a charm and Tuesday, same problem.
I have the Gold insurance for 2 years with Autoprotect, so I gave them a call and they advised me to take it to Halfords, as they have a contract with them.
Left the car there yesterday, called me today, they fixed it everything is fine, changed the left side caliper on insurance.
Got there: "we are sorry sir, but you can't have the car, as we did not managed to fix it and it might break out of nowhere."
Pads are wearing thin as well and they recommended me changing the discs + pads, 200 pounds, as they are not covered by insurance because it's wear and tear.

Can I get away cheaper with the discs+pads? Does anyone know where can I buy them from or a cheaper service in Birmingham?
I found Pagid 245mm, 30 quid on ebay, the entire set, but the manager at Halfords told me I need 305mm? I thought the A6 has the same ones like Superb and Passat...
