new A6 avant picked up yesterday, thrilled with it but.......

cruise control not working, the button on the end of the stalk is jammed - hopefully an easy fix on Monday morning

You've presumably pulled the stalk forward to engage it first right? I hate myself for even asking, sorry.

On the other hand, it could be borked as I've had my cruise die on me once too, so I know it can happen.

If its a manual box it could be a failed switch on the clutch pedal

I wish I could tpye...

thx, yes pulled it , moved it up and down. . . the button on end of stalk moves again now but I think switch is dead.

its a multitronic, always ok on last A6 :(

Multitronic lol.

Make sure you're doing at least 19mph for the cruise to enable. Put it in the position where you can adjust the speed, it's on standby in this position.

Now drive up to around 30mph and press the little button, it should enable.

Also if you adjust the speed on the stalk you should see a display appear on your DIS telling you the cruise speed.

tried it at 30 and mainly wanted to set it to keep at 50 in motorway roadworks with average speed cameras. . . I just don't think the button is operating to turn it on

Interesting, my push button at the end of the stalk is also faulty and, reading the fault codes, the car realises it (improbable signal) and shuts down the cruise control.

I'm very impressed with the fault management systems in VW/Audi cars, basically it tells you what's wrong and you just change the part (or they do under warranty!)

Mine is intermittent, so I'm waiting till the weather improves a bit so the car doesn't get dirty too quick after they wash it for me!

pretty similar,

lol people at work accuse me of "getting something checked under warranty" just to get car cleaned :)

Don't get the car washed by them, no care at all is given and you could end up with those little pesky swirl marks :aargh4:

now I have this grey one that is probably true.

hoping to get it detailed on Wednesday to get it as it should be, then hopefully well protected and easier to look after

Well a little bit of diagnostics on my part discovered that it is ok in the morning, and when the stalk warms up ( either during the day with heater on OR in a few minutes by holding my hand around it) the button starts to stick, when it gets waremer the button jams in, when its cold the button operates ok.
Dealer is replacing the stalk next week.
