hi all, we had some snow yesterday and it was minus temperatures most of the weekend. the car was running fine and starting fine friday, but when i went to start this morning it struggled to fire.

the starter turns fine, so i dont think its the battery, it just sounded like it was running on two cylinders, then chugged for about ten seconds, then kicked in and started running if not a little chuggy when it was cold.

is there anything common i should be looking at? its a 1.6 petrol, does it have coilpacks or a dizzy cap?

Which year and engine code? Some of those have a dist cap that is absolutely evil to get at. Your problem may be a faulty coolant temperature sender so I suggest you start by getting someone to give it a fault code read.

its a 1.6 adp 8v.

just been out and tried it again after driving to work and it getting to temp, and it started first time with no problems, so i think its damp or cold getting to a component rather than something properly failed. think ill replace the plugs out of routine anyway.

just waiting for my vagcom to turn up to read the codes.

The distributor cap on an ADP engine is awful to get and so is not often changed.
