Clear all faults, run the car for a couple of days and scan again

Do you have any dashboard warning lights on at the moment?

Any other noticeable problems with the car? Anything not working correctly?

if not then does as Kite says, clear everything and drive it then scan it again. Some of those faults could have been from years ago!

I cleared all last night after scanning and will check again tomorrow, there are definitely issues with the ABS, been like this since the bad snow in the winter, just bought two new front ABS sensors for £26 with postage which I'm guessing is not bad.

i do have two wires hanging down from the front bumper which i think is the outside temp sensor (anyone know where to get these)

my car runs fine once started, i just got it serviced and straight away the thing now takes about 4-5 seconds to start... the only two things they changed was the oil filter and fuel filter, i got them to change the oil and filter again and still doesn't fire that easily on start-up... any ideas.. ??

i have put another post here with my probs over the year or so

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=107558

the car according to temp gauge does not run around 85c which i think it should it runs about 70c

thanks for replying, i will scan again tomorrow. first time ive used VCDS so not even sure what info i can get... can it help me diagnose the start-up issues?? Not usre if a return valve or air block problem

Cheers

Change the coolant temp. sensor to see if that makes the temp gauge sit at 90c.
If not you may need to change the thermostat.
Try operating the glow plugs 2 or 3 times to see if that inproves starting, you may have a faulty glow plug.

are the temp sensor and thermostat easy to change, i "believe" they are cheapish to buy. ill give the glow plug thingy a try, will vcds tell me if my glow plugs are faulty?

Not sure vagcom will show faulty glowplugs.
Change the CTS first, it the easier of the 2 and may fix the problem..

well I have changed the CTS and on a twenty minutes drive home today the car was still at 70c

what could this be then? not really sure how the whole lot works, does the CTS just tell me/the dashboard what temp the coolant is, so only a visual thing

and the thermostat opens automatically when the coolant reaches about 90c which the pump then kicks in and pushes the water around the system.
So the car could be working fine with it reaching right temp and cooling properly but I might have a faulty dash gauge.

Any way of me testing this.. testing pipes etc, the only conern i have is that the guage became a bit iffy after I fixed some pipes right by the thermostat and if correct the water pump, now to get these pipes in i had to give it a little leverage with a crowbar to get the pipes on in such a tight space.

might i have damaged the thermostat? but how would this affect the coolant gauge ...

aprt from the starting problems after the service the car runs fine, has power does not over heat and does not loose any coolant

thanks again in adance

Looks like the thermostat needs changing as the engine is not reaching 90oC

not questioning you but can you explain how it all fits in so I can understand, are you saying the thermostat is open always because its constantly letting the coolant flow around the engine/radiator thus always cooling it to much.

plus when i turn the engine over, one of my radiator fans runs permanently,
the right hand one as you are standing over it, is this correct ?

also if any of my posts don't make sense then its probably cos I'm on the :beerchug: :biglaugh:

or tying on my mobile, more likely the first one though

Surely if the car was ok before this, you obviously have a problem with the valve on your fuel filter or fuel line. I highly dought they changed your oil and fuel filter again to try and resolve the problem, if they did, you need a new garage. They obviously have no clue !!!!

i would agree, a badly fitted fuel filter. take it off and check there are 2 seals on it, and that none remain from the old fuel filter, or that none are missing
