Hello folks.....

First post so bear with me. The ESP light is on constantly on my A3, first appeared about 4-5 weeks ago and I've just had it hooked up to the Vagcom and it returned the output below. Would appreciate if anyone ahs any thoughts on this, I've read several forums on the specific output and at I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to cost a packet to fix! Thanks in afdvance for any help you can provide:

01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201): Electrical Fault in Circuit

Possible Causes

Brake Pedal Switch (F) faulty/jammed
Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) faulty

Possible Solutions

Check/Replace Brake Pedal Switch (F)
See Measuring Blocks
Check/Replace Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55) may need to replaced
Perform Brake Pump Bleeding
Perform Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) Basic Setting
Replace Brake Electronics Control Module (J104)

The above is from the Ross-Tech wiki

I'd start by having a look at the measuring blocks for brake pedal switch and the pressure sensor to see if they are giving sensible values.

Thanks bundao! I'll look at those and if I find a fix reply back to the post.

Cheers. Paul

your brake pressure sensor is not good news on a mk60 abs unit there is lots of posts on the forum about this type brake pressure sensor. look on the search and be prepared for some not so good reading

Done a few of these on golf 5s the g 201 is in the abs unit as Has already Been said you will need to fit a new pump or get it repaired last one we bought was 612 plus vat from tps but a company called ecu testing refurb them now either way it won't be a cheap fix I think vw now acknowledge they are rubbish as I've read on the net of goodwill repairs for this out of warranty have a google for g201 sensor golf they are the same units with the same fault

Hi, i have an A3 tdi which i have been pretty impressed with over the last 3 years HOWEVER... it has had a few glitches to say the least since ive had it the latest is the appearance of the ESP light , the car is 4 years old and 55k and full audi history , im not impressed one bit at the idea of having to shell out £1500 for a new ABS pump that was clearly badly designed as i have read hundreds of complaints today on various web sites , i havent been to Audi Salisbury yet but will be in there intray Monday ,has anyone had this problem solved totally at no cost by either goodwill gesture or by quoting the sale of goods act

the car is 4 years old and has covered 55k, which part of the SoGA do you intend to quote?

Personally, I'd have a diagnostic check completed on the vehicle, I'm no expert but I should imagine there's more than one possible cause for the appearance of the ESP light?

If you intend to gain any goodwill from a dealership, going in with a hostile attitude is something I'd discourage you from.

Hi thanks for reply , ive read loads of those threads as i said and 99% point to the abs pump all with various out comes but most have been told to part with £1500 until questioned as for the Soga i intend to if necessary quote that the goods sold to me has a costly repair needing done that is within six years of purchase and that due to the amount of people that have had these problems that the part itself was inherently faulty and not broken due to neglect or abuse in anyway as for the attitude on which i approach them my wife will contact them lol probs best eh ?

the trouble with reading threads and basing a diagnosis on these can lead to inacurrate identification of faults.

As said, I'm not an expert, but the first step in any (especially with modern cars) is to run a diagnostic check - then see how the land lies.

In regards to your SoGA point, whilst I sympathise, what you're suggesting would require Audi's agreement. I cannot see Audi agreeing with you that the part was flawed in design. It's very difficult to prove techincal flaws, as opposed to natural wear and tear on components.

Hopefully the more techincal members can offer and input, but personally I would figure out exactly what the problem is before panicking about the £1500 bill.

im fully in agreement with what your saying an eagerly awaiting my appointment with the vagcom diagnostic machine to spill the beans on the situation , im pretty sure there is some give and take with this but the thought of parting with that amount of cash for no real reason i think is pretty bad

Hello all, so apologies for not getting back to you all before now. I started the post so I thought it's be wise to let you know how I got on.

After sitting on it for a while I eventually bit the bullet and sent the ABS pump to Autotek Electronics who did some anaylsis and then refurb's the pump with a 3 month warranty for about 500 quid. I had a lcoal mechanic do the replacement for me, original quote from Audi was 1000+ for the pump alone. Not cheap by a long shot!
