Fixing all the little things whilst I wait to figure out parts numbers for alternator pulley failure.

My driver side door switch doesn't seem to be working. It stopped working about 2 years ago in a similar manner, but then decided to start working again shortly after. Now since it's back with new turbo, it's stopped working again. Passenger side is ok, (3 door) and light comes on when you open door, but doesn't work when you open driver side door, interior lights and red warning light at bottom of inside door are not working.

Is this a failed door switch? How do I fix and what part do I need.

    Many thanks.

Sounds like a failed door switch - either a broken micro switch or a badly soldered joint. There was a howto somewhere on where to locate the joint. Try a search. If I come across it, will post it up here. Worth trying that out before buying a new door lock.

What is wrong with VW door locks? They are very reliable in my opinion.

My lock is fine, it's only the door light opening function that's not working. Will attempt to open up door mechanism at weekend, see if any solders broken, does look quite involved, so will try liberal WD 40 application first just incase it decides to start working again.

It's a 3 door GT, so yes does have central locking. Locking/unlocking seems to be fine, just door light not working, so maybe problem 4th micro sensor in mechanical part.

It's also late 2002, and reading some of the links above, other microswitches should be fine as this part was redesigned in 2001 on models.
