    has any body got detailed pic of where I can find the temp sender in the AJM (1.9 TDI PD 115) engine.

    I've had a look around the engine bay but can not find anything that might resemble the housing for the Temp sender. I've been told it's towards the back of the engine but still can't see it. A series of pics would help.

    Hi Loofer,

    Underneath the tandem pump there is a plastic coolant pipe, the CTS resides towards the rear end of this pipe.

    Unplug the wiring plug on the CTS, carefully unprise the plastic retaining clip (downwards IIRC), then pull out the CTS. Expect some/alot of coolant loss (probably best done when coolant is cool to minimise coolant loss), so a spare amount of G12/G12++ beforehand is advisable.

    The following link provides an illustrated how to on changing a CTS on an AJM engine;

    How To Change the CTS

    AFAIK, this should be applicable to the other Golf/Bora, PD engines (ATD, ASZ, ARL).

    The post below is a superficial price comparison of different coolants;
    TDI Coolant

    You should already have been using G12 coolant (pinkish) rather than G11 (blueish).

    Regards,
    TR7

    Remember that coolant is poisonous and attracts animals, so thoroughly hose away any spilt coolant.

    Taa for that. Changed the Temp sender a few hours ago when there was some light.

    Like a muffin, I didn't have the new temp sender ready. Ended up loosing all the coolant. Popped the new Sender in. Tried putting the new clip on but it snapped. Luckily I still had the original one so put that back on.

    Here's the worrying bit. My local VW parts desk closes at 5.30pm (just after I finished changing the CTS). With the coolant down the drain I need to replace fast as I need the car from 0530 in the mornings. Went to Halfords as it was open and walking distance. There were two variations of Halfords Advanced Coolant/Antifreeze that lasts upto 5 years. One bottle was fairly transparent and you could tell it was red/pink in colour. The second one (which I bought) was more expensive. £21 for 5 ltrs of concentrated. It displayed that it met requirements for several Mfrs including VW, Audi, Skoda with the spec TL774D.

    Anybody know if this is equivalent to G11/G12/G12+?

    The car only took about 2 litres so I'm guessing there was still another litre of the old coolant left at the bottom of the system, so I've obviously mixed it with new stuff. I had G12 in before... any potential problems as a result of mixing. I'll completely drain it from bottom on the weekend but I'm reluctant to spend more money to get the original G12+ collant from VW

    I'll see if MPG improves tomorrow

    You should not mix coolant as a rule... but if its the pink stuff from Halfords for VAG's it will be ok..

    One thing to note... you should mix the coolant with water also, otherwise it can have a adverse affect and not do its job..

    You're welcome.

    TL VW 774D corresponds to G12 (red/pink)
    TL VW 774F corresponds to G12+ (purple)

    these are both OAT (Organic Acid Technology, organic salt corrosion inhibitors) which can safely coexist / interop, so you shouldn't have any issues.

    whereas

    TL VW 774C corresponds to G11 (green/blue) which (AFAIK) must not be mixed with G12/G12+ (as suggested by Rick), since
    it contains Hybrid (inorganic/organic) corrosion inhibitors.

    Finally, TL VW 774G corresponds to G12++(purple), is SOAT based (Silicate Organic Acid Technology).

    G12+++ .... Looks like they let the computer scientists loose in the chemistry lab ... .

    I put the TL VW 744D in my Skoda from Halfords and runs fine, as TR7 says it is fine for use.

    Although I've only done one round trip since I've had the new sensor in... the MPG hasn't changed.

    So far I've changed the MAF now the CTS and also regularly check the tyre pressure.

    Had a full service a few weeks ago too.

    Up until around a year ago I consistently got 60MPG average. Now I just about average 45mpg. It has deteriorated over the last 12 months. havn't changed fuel provider and I still do same journey in same conditions with same drivoing behaviour.

    Don't know what's up. Car still pulls well when I need it to. What else could it be?

    Bit unsure how this is the correct section (Audi A4)

    I haven't mentioned the name of the car in the opening thread apart from engine code though my signature gives it away that it's a Bora.

    Isn't the CTS a comon problem amongst alot of the VAG TDIs?
