Hi all, I have a problem and need help -
I own a W reg 1.9 TDi with the auto (tiptronic) box and I seem to loose reverse as soon as I touch the accelerater! Sometimes it catches and reverses as normal but most times you can hear and feel reverse gear engage and then it dissapears as soon as the revs increase - as if the clouch were being pressed on a manual.

Now, i've have the valve chest looked at and been told there's no faults - and the auto transmission guy who looked at this said he's never known anything like this before!!! does this problem sound familiar to anyone out there?

This car has already had two gearbox recon's in it's life and it's just 7 years old!

i'd be greatful if anyone could shed some light on this or point me in the direction of a transmission firm that can pin point the problem and sort it out.

Ironic really! i've spent most of my life going backwards - now my car refuses to.

    Thanks
    Dan

Thanks for letting me know - i've no idea where to go with this problem, no body seems to know what it could be - and i don't really want to pay for another gearbox recon to then be told it's an electrical fault!!!!
I thought these cars were pretty bullet proof - obviously not!
If i find a cure - i'll post back on here, and if you find a cure i'd be greatful if you could let me know.

    Cheers,
    Dan

I have just bought a A4 (30v V6) with a tiptronic gearbox which has the exactly the fault you described.
I have spoken to a autobox specialist yesterday who is going to diagnose the fault when I get chance to let him have the car. This involves checking the fault codes and oil pressures. He says this gearbox doesn't rely heavily on oil as other auto gearboxes and talks about problems from a sensor failure to reverse clutch failure.
I will keep you informed after I have been there, hopefully next week.
I'll keep checking back to see if anyone else has posted anything interesting here.
