    Hello,
This is my first post on this forum so I hope I have posted in the right place. This looks to be a very helpful forum

I have just got myself an A4 Avant 03 plate 2.0.
It's a lovely car and is as new, anyhow-the car only came with 1 key, so I browsed Ebay other night and won an auction for a blank key (ready to be cut) with 3 button remote (ready to be programmed).

Can I presume this can be cut at a good locksmiths or at a dealer?
Also will it have to be re programmed by an Audi dealer or can it be done without somehow?
lastly how much is it approx to get the key cut and re programmed?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Simon

    Programming remote unit

    - Switch ignition ON.

    - Lock vehicle mechanically at left front door using second key.

    - Press "Open" button on first remote unit (key fob) once (to assign memory address to remote unit number one).

Note: The alarm horn will sound briefly each time the "Open" button is pressed to confirm the reception of the signal during this process.

    - Wait six seconds after sending last signal, then press "Open" button again.

^ Doors will now unlock (remote unit is now programmed).

    - Lock vehicle mechanically again using second key.

    - Press "Open" button on second remote unit (key fob) twice at 1 second intervals (to assign memory address to remote unit number two).

    - Wait six seconds after sending last signal, then press unlock button again.

^ Doors will now unlock (2nd transmitter is now programmed).

    - Repeat procedure for additional remote units (key fobs) to assign memory addresses number 3 and 4 if necessary.

    - Switch ignition OFF.

    - Check each transmitter for proper function

Dealers gotta cut em, at least here in the US. You will also need to have them program the immobilizer so it will have permission to start the car.

Dealers always program the lock and unlock features at the same time (as seen above is correct I believe).

To program the key for the ignition (once it's cut) - Using vagcom - turn on car using current good key. Enter section 17, central convenience, then adaption over on the right hand side. I believe it asks for the 4 digit pin code here. Then channel 23 I believe, and change the 1 to a 2. Then turn off vag com, turn off ignition, and turn back on again - This has programmed #1 key, turn off and remove key, insert new key and turn on - this has programmed #2 key. Welcome to spare key ownership. Hopefully I will finally have a spare soon too.

devon, dont you need the SKC code to do the above? sorry if im hijacking, but i just contacted my local vw dealer for a price to code my key to alarm and immo, she then asked where id got the key from, when i said id bought it from an 'alternative' outlet, she told me they wouldnt touch the key unless it was supplied by them!

    Hi
Just had the same problem with a 1997 A4 avant i got at auction.
Only 1 key was supplied with the car.
I went into the local key cutter (Timpsons) and he cut me a new key and coded it for £30.
This is a non plip key, but will make an ideal spare.

DON'T DO THIS - YOU COULD WIPE THE ORIGINAL KEY

KEYS ARE MATCHED TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NOT CONVENIENCE SYSTEM AND A 7 DIGIT PIN IS NEEDED REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU MAY HAVE HEARD...

MAIN DEALER ONLY OR A GOOD INDEPENDENT WITH VAS 505X.

Vag-Com can do the job but you need the code, which is only available through VAS 505X with online connection.

(PS. VAS 505X DOES NOT DISPLAY THIS CODE) it's a secret...!

Well, I programmed my own key using vag com....?

It may not have been central convenience, could have been somewhere else. It definitely is not a dealer only option, because I've done it. It was just so long ago I can't remember the route through. I only needed the 4 digit code to access my ECU - I have this code stored in my service schedule for when ECU access is needed (i.e not often)

    Hi,

It's ok for you to use the 4 digit pin; Skoda are not yet using the GeKo System for programming using the 7 digit pin. There is talk that they soon will.
