I agree ... if enough is not done quickly to remove these hate preachers then British people feeling alienated by current mainstream politics will be turning to BNP/EDL, which is not good in my books ... my view is that the BNP MEP came about because of lack of action by mainstream politicians ...

Does anyone actually believe that any Muslims made a complaint about a Morrisons employee wearing a cross?
This is not only the one occurrence of how Christians in the UK have been made to feel alienated by their own and it needs to stop as it creates tension/divide/alienation ...

Hop into a time machine and go back to the crusades. Christianity was militantly fighting militant Muslims. Each side was convinced they were right one side saw the other as barbarians, the other side saw the enemy as infidels. Hop back into your time machine and come back to the UK in 2013. There are many more Christians than there were during the crusades yet their mindset has changed. The bible has been read, analysed, translated and reinterpreted. Take another short spin to the middle east. Again there are more Muslims than there were during the crusades yet the Qur'an remains the same. The mindset has changed little, nobody can question the Qur'an without coming to a sticky and nasty end. No debate is tolerated, other faiths are suppressed, discriminated against or totally banned. Which group could you negotiate with, where will reason, logic and compromise triumph? I think I know the answer ....

Obviously there are also those like Michael Adebolajo & Michael Adebolowa (excuse the spelling) who have been raised as British Christians, who are disturbed anyway and who just see too many gangster/action movies & decide they want to play with AK47's & decide to live out their fantasy by joining a terrorist organisation like Al Qaida. Not sure what can be done with people like that except giving the security services more power to detain suspects.

    I've not done that!

    As far as I'm concerned the whole world could be run by asking and abiding to one question;

Does it take the ****? (urine).

    If it does, stop it.

If it does not then ok, but don't even let it even think about taking the ****.

That is the common sense way, sadly common sense was last seen leaving the UK in 1987 on a ferry bound for.............

That he comes across as another extremist condemning an entire religion.

One thing that he needs to be clear on is just that, is he attacking the entire religion or just a part of the text - specifically violent jihad.

I do agree that Muslims in the community need to do more to weed out these extremists.

I also agree that more needs to be done to tackle all forms of extremist views that are a detriment to a peaceful and tolerant society that works together for the betterment of all.

The duke who said being born in a stable does not make one a horse but if you live there spending most your time on all fours, eating hey and saying neigh then that would make you a horse of sorts.

My views on most this are very similar to Gups and it's interesting for me learn your background is similar to mine.

I am British born Indian and take a humanist approach to life - aspiring to take it one step further to be able to afford the right of freedom to all sentient beings. I would say I'm an agnostic theist if I had to label it.

My wife and I consider ourselves very much British more so than Indian in that we can both speak our native language but have never learned to read or write it, we speak exclusively english at home. We have two young babies both of whom have english names - Cherry-Mae and Rio Valentine. It's quite funny that I still get asked by english people (even those I've known for s number of years) if we celebrate Christmas - my personal favourite time if the year! We do however still celebrate Diwali and do other cultural things too.

Just as something needs to be done to stop alienating young british Muslims same needs to be done for young english Christians who would both end up on the extreme side of the fence. It's a big task but needs sorting ASAP.

In my opinion I don't think anything will happen - people say things will change when extreme things happen - they have 7/7 now this ...what has changed? Little.

I fear more terrorist attacks will happen again in the future...heck they're already happening in other western states...

Shouldn't we all be doing more than posting on vwaf? That's not going to change much is it? Don't we all need to be writing to our mps etc?

Hey guys as some may know I am a muslim, yes I go to the mosque, yes I practice my religion, does that make me an extremist? Not in my eyes it doesnt...I read in an earlier post that muslims should get together to flush out the extremists or a comment muslims wobt give one of there own up... yes I agree that extremists need to be flushed out whereas the second point I do not agree with! As I said before yes I do go to the mosque but I go offer my prayers and leave so would that give me the ability to know these extremists? I am like gup from 2 generations my grand parents came to this country could not speak english but worked worked and worked paid there way and retired...my parents came to this country wen they were around 14 did not know a word of english but learnt it and got where they are today then there is my generation born here. Yes I can speak my parents mother tongue but I can also speak english which I class as ny first language. If I didnt have faith then I dont think id be here today as I have been through quite alot...which I wont go into. I also had a brother who served in the British army and proud he was of it too. Yes of course it upsets me even thinking about the poor soldier who was attacked in an extremely horrid way may he rest in peace. But to tar a whole religion as extremists in my opinion is wrong. There are innocents in this too, I work and gave been since I was 14 , have never claimed benefits always paid my what I owe. I think the main thing to remember is treat each person with the respect you would like them to treat you with and I think if we followed that then ppl would get along together. As in all communities/ walks in life you get a few rogues but then everything can't be perfect can it?
