Read an article in this week's Autoexpress about the increase in the amount of bioethanol to 10% meaning that the only E5 fuel available at many garages will be Super Unleaded:
    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au...thousands.html
    Worryingly it states:
A DfT statement said the use of E10 shouldn’t affect the operation of modern cars “with the exception of direct-injection vehicles”
The TSI is direct injection, so does that mean soon it will only take E5? Also, reading the article I wonder what will happen post 2013 (see the bit at the bottom)?

Bloody Ell . what will they come up with next. So standard unleaded 95 RON petrol is to be changed from 5% to 10% Ethanol to be more enviromentally friendly but as the majority of cars can not run on it we will all have to change to super 98Ron which is 5%. What fool thought that one up ?

No, the manual says no such thing. The recommend fuel is 95 RON, the manual even states there is no advantage in terms of power or economy if a higher octane fuel is used (section 3.3 page 38). In some countries 91 RON is available, so 95 RON may be classed as 'super unleaded' which may cause confusion.

My manual gives general advice on suitable fuels, but refers the driver to the sticker inside the fuel filler flap for the appropriate fuel for the engine fitted to the car. My sticker states 95 RON.

Standard unleaded fuel at the pumps is 95 Ron , but most petrol companies call this SUPER. and it is this product that is going 10% Ethanol, The 98 Ron is variously known as Ultra or Momentum (Texaco) and this will be 5% for the meantime ! Confusing.

In the USA their ordinary unleaded can contain up to 10% Ethanol ! wonder how the TSI engines cope with it ?
    United States
In most states, ethanol is added by law to a minimum level which is currently 5.9%. Most fuel pumps display a sticker stating the fuel may contain up to 10% ethanol, an intentional disparity which allows the minimum level to be raised over time without requiring modification of the literature/labelling. Until late 2010, fuels retailers were only authorized to sell fuel containing up to 10 percent ethanol (E10), and most vehicle warranties (except for flexible fuel vehicles) authorize fuels that contain no more than 10 percent ethanol.[19] In parts of the United States, ethanol is sometimes added to gasoline without an indication that it is a component in some states.

I was in two petrol stations today and both Esso and Shell label the 95 Ron pumps as Super. 98 Ron Shell is Optimax, 98 Ron Esso is Ultimate
