Hi my BLB engine did the same in june last year I persuaded VAG to cough up £100 and I paid the labour charge of £800. I have the invoice in front of me if you want to see the parts list they used. I can scan it and email it over to you. Let me know
By the way I had just buoght a new A6 Lamans avant retail £33K think this went some way to the fact they paid out. Love the A6 and love the A4

Hi Guys, Well all done now, much lighter in the pocket but at least it's all done, just a little note of caution, the indie garage that replaced my engine and turbo had previously done 10 of these Audi/Passat "oil pump" problems with varying degrees of damage, it seems there is more than one problem with these oil pump systems, the pan filter on the bottom of the oil pick up pipe was designed with too fine a mesh so clog up very easily, half the jobs the garage has done was caused by this blocked filter problem, usually first manifests itself with a flickering oil pressure light, catch it at that point and the damage is minimal, continue and........... well we know where that goes don't we.

I know we are not supposed to slag people off but, while Huddersfield Audi stripped my engine for the warranty company they cut off a couple of hoses rather than take them off properly, went to see them with the evidence, asked for payment for replacements, guess what, they refused......£30 and they wouldn't pay for them to be replaced. I wouldn't go to a Audi main dealer if it was the last garage on earth, crooks the lot of them. Confidence in Audi as a car....shattered!! Hope you all have better luck than me.

    Audi has now gone.

Audi made a huge mistake when it rushed the 2.0L PD engine into production - emissions regs were behind this decision. Audi as good as admitted this, when it reverted to the tried and trusted 1.9L PD in many later models.
BTW, I've now got a 1.9L PD Seat.

Staff at Audi dealerships are the motor industry's equivalent of "footballers' wives" - superficial (all flash and no substance). Audi would like you to think their staff are the best. Well, they are, but only when it comes to arrogance.

Vorsprung Durch Technic - progress through technology - is an admirable objective but, surely, duff oil pumps, injectors etc., suggests it's a motto, nothing more.

I'm stuck with a voyager Auto yuk!! Best of luck with yours.

    OMG!!!!!

You will have no joy with Audi , I had the same issue, although it hadnt snapped, it was rattling, after considerable investigation , found the issue! cost me £2750 and some other parts had gone totalling my bill to £3300!!! The warranty company would not pay out as they reckon the fault had been there for some time ( prior to the warranty)

Audi customer service were terrible. Bottom line is

Did you buy the Audi from an Audi dealer ?

Have you had the car serviced by Audi ?

Did you take the car to Audi dealer for the repairs?

If I had had done the above they may have gave me something as an act of goodwill for being Loyal to the Audi Brand!!!!

They also stated that they had never heard of the problem!!!

Never buy another AUDI again. In fact when I have ran the piece of garbage into the ground, i'll be dumpin the sack of sh.. on their forecourt.

Then i went down the lines of breaking the car and selling it....It's annoying to be honest.

To be honest i'm just at my wits end with it.
I was like you, had it fixed and was going to get rid, then i thought id be throwing money hand over fist , so decided to stick with the car and run it into the ground to try and get some value out of it.

I paid £7800 for mine in Oct 2009, had 90,000 on it, then a further £3300 in July last yr so av paid out Circa £11 k for a car that I would only get around £6 k for.

I will drop it off at the delaership when its of no use!

The issue lies squarely at Audi's door - nowhere else. After all, they were responsible for the mickey mouse design. The fact they changed to a gear drive should be sufficient enough evidence to cause an independent adjudicator to find in favour of the plaintive - ie, the customer.

As regards your question: I'm going to contact Audi UK, direct, and pose the question re-my car. If they respond to the effect that my car has a chain drive then I'll ask them the logical question, which is: Should the drive system fail, will you, Audi, repair this and any consequential damage to related parts on a FOC basis? If Audi UK's response isn't conclusive, I'll contact Audi, Germany, direct. I'm a retired, Victor Meldrew sort of guy, so have lots of determination, and time, to pursue the issue. I'm going to enjoy this. It won't be a quick-fix, though, if my experience of life is anything to go by.

    I'll keep you posted.
AM UP FOR TAKING THIS FURTHER. I REALLY AM.

Can we get a petition or vote or something going, i.e names / addresses of people with this issue , costs incurred and go back to Audi ?

Lets also add the bills up.

Mine £3300 ( have the bill to hand)

I have a copy of my email ( which they never responded to) had to phone them 3 weeks later

so if we got a list of people who have had to foot the bill, and the amount and present this to Audi and ask what they are going to do or we will take it further ?

    Thoughts ?

    Hi
I would be happy to be included in your petition but I only had to put in the labour costs of £800 so I am not as much out of pocket as some of the others. But on reflection I had just bought a new A6 lemans Avant in the previous November under the scrappage scheme (Value £33k) so I think they felt they had to chip in. Still have both cars the A4 goes like split Sh.. since audi wakefield repaired it. Must have been bad while it was rattleing away for the previos 4 months. The AA man who came to trow it in it had never herd of this problem with this engine.

    hello guys.

Why don't forget about expensive and shity main dealer repairs?
Talk to real vw/audi specialist not dealer trained but trained by life and love to the cars.

Let's come back to the 1.9 PD engines with simple oil pump. 2.0 tdi has very similar engine block to 1.9 pd tdi so basically it works like LEGO. Belive me or not but there is quite few BLB with above conversion driving perfectly. There is correct oil pressure from very reliable oil pump, less vibration due to removed balance shafts and more power without them.

I'm currently doing above conversion in my a4 tdi with BLB engine which is a lot better and cheaper than your usual repairs. Hopefully back on road in 2 weeks time as i'm busy at work. Any one interested is more than welcome to come and have a look.
