well this is the 'chat about anything except cars' forum.... strictly speaking this isnt a car LOL 'tis my new project, did a 1977 version of these 4 years ago, before some nice t**t went and burnt it out for us just to put a perspective on how annoying that was.... spent 18 months reworking bodywork, replacing various bits and pieces, fitting out the living (kitchen/bed) and repainting the entire box, after these 18 months, the box went from being worth around £1k to about £3200..... the one below cost around half of the first box.... so you do the math :P

'tis a horsebox by the way LOL

Saturday's my wasted week of the day LOL, 12 months down the line the truck will be transformed and i reckon worth around £3/3.5k so yesh good investment.... thinking about going into trucks as opposed to cars, they tend to appreciate, instead of cars... as we all know

Can you still get parts for them okay? Maybe it's a ford cargo is it? First one looked like a bedford. There's a good market for under £5k boxes that have practical living fitted and are safe/reliable.

Me got a swish lorry Air suspension tho - lovely ride, as it were, but am always just a bit scared about when it stops working properly. Off to Glasgow for Scottish Champs this weekend which will be first overnighter.

I think once you get in to the <£5k lorries there is great scope for "tarting up and punting on". It's also fairly typical that the horsey folks don't spend any time looking after the lorry - it goes for plating once a year and other than that, it's used and abused.

Mine needs a wash in the photo. It's surprisingly easy and quick to wash, with my trusty sponge on a pole tool.

    Have fun!

they're what your humble cargo is based on, the ford D series, released in 69 IIRC, somewhat of a truck vintage.

the one on the left in the pic was coachbuilt from day one, its been with the last owner for 10 years and he was just going to scrap it, i told him it would be a crime if he did that and kindly took it off his hands.

i've done one before.... im on the lookout for a caravan being broken now, need the blown air heating, cooker, Tv etc etc.

i think i might have seen your box about, i used to visit talk of the north/birchenly arena/bankrupt company a lot, used to be up and down the UK with my dutch w/blood before i had to let her go

Yes, breaking a caravan is a great way to go. Mine still has unfitted living - that's how I could afford a posher/newer chassis. OH is a joiner/cabinet maker though so once the bathroom's finished... Well, it's part done now - needs the loo partition/door put in and the seating/bed. It's not cut through to the luton so will have to be part of the seating. I wasn't going to bother with heating but ask me again next week after I've spent a night outside glasgow in it...

my box was coach-built about 3 years ago, sold up to Nairn, unused then sold to me at Christmas. It's done very very little carrying about of horses. Not sure where it was built, though the woman vaguely mumbled about Reading. It's got "Cartwright" written on the top of one of the corner pillers.

We thought about looking out for a caravan to break, too. What do you do about the cushions and stuff - are you hoping to take them from a caravan too? I keep changing my mind about what to do. Maybe I should be just looking for foam and doing it myself - sounds like a right pain, tho.

What did you do with the dutch wb? SJ and XC I'm guessing! Poofy dressage for me - can't beat it.
