130 coz that's plenty, but if you want more, rumour has it it's easier to get from a 130 than it is from a 150.

But if you're leaving it standard and might get 150 envy when you have a 130, then get a 150 in the first place. I've been in both recently and tbh I'd rather make sure I get the best car available than concern myself as to which engine output. Both are great.

I trust that muddies the water satisfactorily

I was thinking the same thing if you look at both the cars the 150 looks better there is quite a few differences i thought there wasnt but there is,get them both along side each other and you will pick the 150 every time i did and i am thrilled to bits with it but i must say i had a Passat tdi 130 Sport remapped and it was unreal the difference so i am thinking of doing the Golf now

Just remember that 150PS ARL engines are prone to cam/lifter/rocker failure (£1500 ish), turbo failure (£1200 ish) and dual mass flywheel failure (£1000 ish). The 130 is a much more reliable unit.

Crasher, what are you saying!!? Dont put the lad off!!

"Why have cotton when you can have silk?"

    Go for the 150!

Use only the correct PD oil and the ARL will see you way past 100k. I service mine every 6000 mls, I dont believe in 24000mls (Or whatever the 'long life' shedule is. They aint UHT milk!!) service shedules. Look after a car and it will look after you. Money on regular oil changes now is a lot more money saved in the future.

OK, OK, OK! Ive just cursed my 150 rocket with the kiss of death now Ive said that!!

I bought a 150 and I love it. Even though I encountered an oil cooler problem about 2k miles after buying. It is pretty quick through the mid range, and I have had some quick cars with 9 points to show for it!

However my 150 has got me in trouble again, i could be looking at a ban, and it's for sale!!!!!

Dont be crapping yourself. Remember ANY car can have faults and failures. There may well be things more prone to going wrong on the 130 than the 150 (? Crasher ?). VWs are generally very reliable vehicles, they wouldnt sell well if they werent - German quality. Thats why they hold value well.

Just look after it well. Regular PD quality (NOT Tesco value etc!) oil changes if nothing else.

Im off to wash mine now - its filthy!!

Most G4 diesels were built in Belgium.
