    Hello there

I have the common problem of the inlet manifold flap on my 55 plate A3 2.0 TDi malfunctioning and causing the engine light to come on and have heard that there is an upgraded part that can rectify the problem.

Does anyone know how to remove and replace this part? I know where it is but is there anything specific I need to know?

Also.... Where are the glow plugs?

Any help would be much appreciated and many thanks in advance.

I had this problem with my A3 in December and whilst the glow plug light came on, there was nothing wrong with the glow plug, just the motorised valve. I got Audi to pay 50% towards the cost of repair so at the dealers that cost nearly £300 and that has been fine since. Certainly no glow plug problem. Just plenty of others

I eventually got my IMF replaced under the extended warranty I have with the dealer so that was good and the no.1 glow had actually gone so I paid about 55 quid to get that sorted. Wasn't too bad I suppose but now my flywheel is on its way out! Lovely!

Thats good news and bad - hope your car doesnt turn out like how mine appears to be. I am just about to have the conversation with Audi in how I have no faith or trust in them as a brand anymore

Sounds like you have a few issues there?

I am slightly concerned as I have researched and found some info on these 140ps A3's with the BKD engine and not all good info unfortunately.

Do you have the same model?

I've only owned mine for a year now and after I have the flywheel replaced along with the warranty (lucky) work carried out so far it's gonna add up to a good 1500 quids worth of work so i'm not too impressed.

What I might try and do is get her fixed up as best as possible and then upgrade.

It's a real shame really because besides all the crap that's happened so far, I do really love the car ya know? Just one of those things I guess.

I do know what you mean yes, beautiful car to drive, the status attached, they look good even when older etc - when I can get in it and when it is working but at the end of the day I was prepared to pay the extra for quality and I aint seeing it. Yes, it is a BKD engine - what have you learnt? Is there a web link? I will need all info to fire at Audi. I have asked before if they have known issues with this make and model. Not impressed that the parts catalogue is not up to date either as that resulted in 2 weeks of the car being off the road alone.

Current repair bill running at £1300 and I possibly would upgrade, with guarantees, but I was laid off last Friday and my last payment for this 'thing' is this month.

I absolutely agree with you on that.

After checking around on here, alot of people with the same engine's are experiencing all sorts of problems but the most common I find are turbos popping and gearbox's failing but then on another hand, these A3 BKD'S are very popular so it's only natural that there will be lots of posts with issues on them as there are so many on the road so I don't know what to believe.

I did read a post somewhere on here which I can't remember where now and the garage that posted it said that they see more BKD A3's than any other Audi so that made my heart sink a little.

I think fixing her up and upgrading with guaranties like you said is probably the route I'm gonna take.

I hope you don't end up with a crazy bill and you get it sorted eventually. And me as well for that matter haha
