Is it worth it?

I'm seriously considering buying an Octavia, has to be a diesel model and ideally between 2000-2004
I've seen lots of ex taxi models with high mileage for example a 2003 1.9 for a reasonable price but it has 240,000 miles on it

Is it worth taking a "risk" on a car with this sort of mileage? or is it worth buying even though the engine may need reconditioning?

The gearbox was replaced with a recon uint a while ago

What other bits on the car need checking if I decide it's worth the risk?

I'm used too Vectra's and love them but seriously like the look of the Octavia and really fancy one, I'm just a bit "wary" never having had one or known anyone with one

it may be worth a punt, if the price is right and the oil has been changed lots of times. as a rule, a taxi is generally not thrashed and looked after pretty well. the engine could well have another 100k left in it.
