Hi Again, The lever in the boot of my A4 cab is meant to lift up a tray in order to make more room for luggage. Its only lifting one side up. The dealership say that they have only replaced the whole thing as a unit, usually under warranty. Has anyone seen or fixed this problem - it cant be much to fix -can it?

Best to climb into the boot and find out for yourself.
I did look at a cabby before buying my current one,and that had a similar issue. All the guy did was punch the tray upwards and tug the lever at the same time,it worked though not the best solution,so I would imagine there can't be too much involved

My lever doesn't work either - when i want a FULL boot i just put my hands beneath the tray and push upwards until its at the top and likewise the opposite to put it back - I have looked into replacing and fixing and it was going to be expensive and to be honest I only ever put the tray up when i need to put my suitcase in otherwise it's always down so the roof will activate.

    Hi,

Open the boot and remove the black plasic cover swith hangs in side the boot (put towards you) this should help once if this still doesn't help WD40 the rails on the left and right.

i partly stripped mine today and fixed it
    quite simple to strip down

the lever operates a cable ,and that cable operates the nsr side, and there is a cam in the menchanism that sends a cable to the other side and operates that side

there is a plastic braket that was broken on mine that holds the main cable in place ,i plastic welded that bracket and now min works perfectly

it really is simple to strip down and once stripped you can see all the workings and quite simple to find out what has broken

Hi Marchhare. I managed to find a second-hand unit on Ebay in the end. When you remove the boot panels the chances are that the plastic bracket holding the outer cable has broken. It seems that one reply claims to have plastic welded it back on - so you could try that. If you do I would suggest that you nurse the repair by lifting the carriage up manually whilst using the lifting lever at the same time - especially in cold weather when the plastic is brittle. To be honest the mechanism is not really up to the job. Audi quoted me silly money (Ł750) and you have to have the whole thing - not just the side thats broken. Unless they can assure you that the replacements are sturdier or modified in some way I wouldn't bother. Wait for one to show up secondhand. Any mechanic can fit it. Meanwhile just lift up the carriage if you need more boot space, see if you get the warning on the dash when you try the hood. If not, the microswitch is stuck in the "safe" position so you will have to remember not to open the hood with your extra luggage in it -otherwise you will damage it.
