    Bump...

I think this is the tool needed for changing the alternator pulley:

You may as well go and get the genuine part...

They can also be had for about ~£40 at Andrew Page Motors (I think they're a sponsor on here).

Yes the M10 spline tool and part look right, but they are both cheaper elsewhere.

If I remember correctly I got a 5 piece Laser spline tool set from Andrew Page for ~£10, and the pulley at ~£40.

It's up to you how you spend your money, but the above 2 are overpriced.

    No worries.

Just have to work out if Andrew Page will send to Ireland!

    Thanks Paul.

Sorry everyone. I'm all questions. I promise to start posting some answers soon.

I read that the tool reqd for this job is the 3400, but this one seems to be numbered the 3307, and is listed as being for the Bosch (not the Valeo).

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laser-3307-Alt...|39:1|240:1318

I reckon this is the right tool...

    Looks like its the same.

I think it will do, I wasn't aware that they're different for Bosch and Valeo alternators, I just knew an M10 spline was needed.

I've found now that it is not the alternator pulley that is faulty on my car, but rather the tensioner pulley.

I've been advised by the Audi dealer in Belfast that the whole tensioner should be replaced - rather than just the pulley. They reckon the tensioner can break? Can anyone back that up? I don't want to spend 100£ extra that I don;t have to.

I don't want to skimp though, on 100£, and then have to pull the old girl apart a second time, just to replace the tensioner!

    Thanks
    Mick
