Been lucky in business and my company has always bought my cars in the past, done the mercedes thing and the bmw thing, my current runabout is a remapped 08 335d m sport touring that I have to replace in March 2011, its had its share of niggles and as there is no updated model available and the dealers are shocking I am thinking A8, It would have to be the 4.2 diesel quatro. Can anyone give me advice as in what niggles to expect? What results can I expect from a remap? ie mpg, bhp and torque.

Wouldn't a re-map invalidate the warranty? Or has all that changed now?

Remap on a turbo just allows the turbo to boost more that the designers thought it should (or the marketing people thought it needed). By doing this, they generally change the power / economy / longevity compromise away from what the manufacturer chose to get maximum sales.

The result you get pretty much depends on where the remap puts the compromise, if it was possible to get more economy, more power, and the same longevity, then Audi would do it themselves and sell more cars

The new A8 has only been out less than a month in UK, and the 4.2 diesel is more powerful than the engine in the previous model, so its probably the most powerful diesel engined car in the world. That said, there is probably a very small market for remaps at this stage in the cars life, so you may have to live with the standard output for a while.

I haven't driven the 3.0, but the 800Nm torque in the 4.2 is astonishing, it wasn't noticeably louder than my 4.2 petrol, but a touch of throttle even at low revs had it moving very quickly.

Its the first diesel engined car I've ever considered owning, up till now the noise, and general driveability hasn't been what I wanted, but now ...
