Need help: Passat 1998 20v T - Climatronic -> is this A/C?

Hi people,

First-timer. Need help with a passat that I purchased, its a 1998 20v T Sports Auto.

Previously owner did not have much info on the car and no user manual came with it and honestly I don't know much about cars as well.

Need help to know if my car has air conditioning. The dasboard has controllers that say "Climatronic" but not sure if this is air conditioning as it is not cold even at lowest setting. My fiancee thinks we do not have A/C, but "Climatronic" seem to be a/c in VW website (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new_cars...ry/climatronic).

Can anyone help? If its a/c, any idea why its not cold and how much wld it cost to fix it?

it should blow cold,are you sure its not in econ mode?

I have the same car as yourself, if its the same as mine you should have the panel that has heaps of buttons, Blue/Red/Air up/Air down/ Eco/ Auto/windscreen.... etc etc if you switch on eco mode that switches off a/c if it's run on auto then your a/c is on.

when you change between the modes, have your engine running and you should hear a click from the engine bay. my last 2 cars did this when i switched off and on the a/c....

Climatronic is an auto air con unit.
As has been mentioned, it can run like a normal heater/blower in econ mode or air con with econ turned off.
If its not cooling the air well, it probably needs recharging.

I know VW dealers are doing air con recharges and new pollen filters for £99.
