Hi, I am hoping to become a returning VW owner, having previously owned a Passat estate 2.0 (170) DSG. I am looking at buying a new Golf on PCP and have seen a price quoted of £20,070, a saving of £2,155 off list - see this link http://www.autobytel.co.uk/NewCars/N...aspx?Car=41620

I haven't approached any dealers yet, but was wondering what experiences others on this forum have had when buying new. Is there much being offered off dealer's prices, or any other offers such as optional extras?

Any recommendations or advice on dealers versus internet deals would be much appreciated. I am based in Essex, near Southend.

    Thanks,
    Scruffy

Would recommend most online brokers who get the fleet discount e.g cafile /ukcarbroker/etc.. just google
You could then try seeing if the local VW source will price match if not the answer is simple for a greater than £200 saving..
Obviously if you've got trade-ins then there would be more to resolve.

Hi Scruffy and welcome to the forums , I can't help with your query about brokers but you might be interested in having a look at the spec advantages if you opt for a Golf Match Tsi ?

Good luck what ever you decide.

That's a good price, I tried the same last year. Online, I was being quoted 10% but that was reduced to 5% at the dealer because of a trade-in.

You should get at least 11% off the list price where ever you go. The maximum dealer discount a dealer can get is 14.5% and that is if he sells lots!

Yesterday when talking to VWCS, they said there is a 20 week waiting list for new golfs. If you don't want many options get a used one.

Also consider the Audi A3 - comes with "bluemotion" as standard, although they call it something different. The TSi's whilst only 1.4 etc and have good mpg on paper, struggle to match up to economy expectations, so be careful if you go down this route if expecting economy and power.

Just to add, I get a reliable 40mpg from my GT160, that is with very little town driving, but it does very well on A-roads, motorways.

Not the 55-70mpg you'll get from VGA TDI's but it's a nice engine!

    Hi Scruffy
I've just bought a 160GT TSi via DriveTheDeal.com and they gave me a really good deal - £2800 discount. My local dealer offered £500 discount even when they knew what discount I'd been offered. So I went with DriveTheDeal expecting the service to a bit iffy, but the VW dealer they actually supplied the car through was excellent and it was one of the best new car handovers I've ever had. Really pleased.

    Thanks all for your views.

I like the look of the match, but that comes back to the 160 vs 122 power issue. I've entered my spec into 'drivethedeal' on the match and it came up with £2225 saving!

So off to the dealers tomorrow to see what they're prepared to offer!

Make sure they dont fool you by saying "i wouldnt deal with a online dealer" because your not
e.g. autobytel just tells you the authorising discounting dealer so you go direct to them and mention autobytel!
not 100% sure about drive the deal but they have been around for a long time, i think you pay a deposit online with them and then the forward you the dealers detail!?
