I am having difficulties removing my battery and suspect there is a hard to see bolt or clamp somewhere. I can manage to remove the two battery terminals but cant seem to move the batt at all.

Does anyone have a detailed write up ( with or without pics) of how to perform this task ?

One of my mates says on the older model B5.5 you have to provide another power source to the car while replacing its batter otherwise the ECU loses its settings. Is this the same case on the 2007 ?

I 'm in Manchester if anyone wants to offer me any help/ advice. I want to do it tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.

    Cheers
    Pete

Remove plastic battery surround and look at battery bottom edge. Remove the bolt down clamp.
ECU will not lose data by disconnecting battery.

Thanks Martin, I managed to do it with your advice. No 13 Deep Socket on a ratchet spanner to loosen the bolt down clamp & No 10 to open the batt terminals.

For the benefit of anyone else, here's how i did it.

1.Started by Removing negative terminal first then the positive when removing old battery.

2.When inserting new battery its Positive first then negative.

The Car started Immediately and I had the ESP & Steering Light on the dash for a few mins but after driving they automatically switched themselves off. Radio worked as well I didnt have to reset it or anything like that.

    Thanks again

    Pete,

If you don't mind me asking.

What make/model of battery did you replace with & actual cost.

Just that I'm south Manchester & get the feeling that it may need replacing this winter.

    Cheers

You can get either of the two.

    Varta Battery 72Amps part No. 000 915 105AF= £125 all incl.
VW Economy battery made by VW as well 72 Amps. Part No. JZW 915 105A= £54 all incl.
Both batteries are sold by TPS & supplied to VW UK.
    Both are 72Amps.
Both come from VW AG (at least thats what the guy told me)
Both are emblaoned with the words VW AUDI SEAT SKODA and are genuine.
BOTH have a 2 yr Guarantee.

So why do they sell two diff types? Basically if your car is under 2 yrs old they advise you to buy the VARTA. If your car is over 3 yrs old it doesnt really matter because they both have a warranty. Also VW may or may not tell you they have a cheaper alternative as they wont make any money off it.

having said that when I removed the old batt it was Varta. New batt has solved my problems and am a happy chappy

    New batt has same dims as well. L x W X H 278mm x 175mm x190mm. Weight 19.6kgs.

    Hope that helps pal.

I have noticed I am now getting a humming noise (almost like a buzz) after having changed the battery. I installed a new battery correct battery for my car genuine from VW. When starting the car by pushing the key to the last position before starting or cranking the engine. Should I be worried about that hum or buzz or can I just ignore it?

With Winter here, I was thinking should I replace the one on my Jan 06 2.0TDi ?

With the cooler temps, the crank is noticably pretty slow, though it starts in 2 secs, but should I replace as the battery is 6 years old anyway ?

I drive 4 x 90 mile trips vs 4 x 8 mile round trips a week, just don't want to wake up to no crank at 4am one morning!

Has anyone used VW / Halfords (have Bosch options) recently, and how did you find VW prices, hope it's standard across the network !
