Hey guy's, I just got a new one this week from Halfords, it's a Navigon 4310 max, full Euro maps and many features, works great, cost originally nearly £300, on offer through Navigon £170, Halfords £119.99 and it includes 2 yrs maps ups, and 1 yrs speedies ups.

As for the indash jobbies, I don't think you'll go wrong with one as long as it arrives in the first place, they certainly do a lot more and do it better than the branded units for a third of the price, if you approach it with the expectation that it will last 3 years and then chuck it you won't be disappointed.

Free standing and to a lesser extent in dash satnav will be outdated in the not too distant future.

The acquisition of digital map companies by the major mobile phone manufacturers will give the majority of people the option of free satnav of sorts (nothing in life is free) … I’d guess most people will take into account this and actively ensure that their next phone will have this option, if they haven’t already.

I’ve loaded the UK/Ireland, France and Greece into mine already, plus speed cameras, and it's still got loads of memory remaining … it’s the way forward me thinks!

I bought mine last year and it's out dated. I was looking at changing it to a more up to date unit. The fatures it has are fantastic value for money. Only downside is the sound quailty is crap.
Have seen a couple of units that say they have 4x60w built in amps but I don't believe them.
Might just get a pioneer with Bluetooth and iPod control cause that's all I use!

I'm not so sure with this moby phone nav myself, I think it will be free for while, then you'll see all the add on's and data being charged for as the likes of Garmin etc do now once the software gets to the level you'd expect from a good sat nav now, so I think the stand alones will still survive, well I hope they do anyway, a stand alone will always feature a better interface and speaker and have a better longevity over a phone imo.

Exactly, and besides I want a phone to be a phone - not a music player or a satnav or whatever else. But then I hate mobile phones, period. Sometimes I'd rather not be contactable, especially when I'm driving.

The navigon 4310 I got last week is fantastic, especially at the price I gave for it, quite original in it's ways as well.....Beware...Traffic Enforcement Ahead, Please turn right into Brittany's Knickers Rd, add in the altitude, distance, time etc settings and it's quite a map book and compass, I can't see a NotaKia 2000000000 ever being so feature rich.

Styled by Porsche apparently, and Geeeeeeeeerman, so it matches the Passat

    http://www.navigon.com/portal/uk/sho...roduktId=37551

It's £45 less at a well known car shop who dress like Wolves FC.

Speed Cameras, over Road Speed Limit Setting, Compass, (Navigation, Positioning "WGS 84" which is a handy backup for when I'm on my boat), Auto Day/Night setting, Selectable Voice guidance, Traffic/Safety Automatic update setting, 3D/2D option, Dashboard setting read out, with max speed and trip distance plus overhaul logging, Map download Worldwide, Map veiw options Standard/ Satellite/Terrain etc, Walking route options, Sending your position via Text, Inside house GPS signal function via Internet WIF, Saving Routes/Places, and FREE most up to date mapping ... there is good reason why they are off loading SatNav cheaply ... This is only my opinion of course and to me that is the only one that matters ....
