How clean do you get your bbq?
I have a gas barbie and I generally heat it up for a good bit before use then before putting it away I clean the main grill but I don't bother with the rest of it.

Havn't made anyone sick yet, touch wood, but I was just wondering if anyone actually scrubs it 'till it sparkles?

i use my barbie (real one, not gas), then next day put it away. next time its used, i empty the ash, bark it up and cook. this continues until it goes away for the winter. basically its never cleaned, all the burnt on bits add to the flavour. i just leave the griddle on before the flames die down, and that cleans it for me.

I just clean the grill with Cillit Bang and a wire brush. Not worried about hygene as all germs get nuked by the heat. More interested in getting rid of the charring, so that it doesn't leave black stuff all the food next time.

Easiest way, is to tell your wife that her mother rung up to invite herself for a BBQ, that will make sure that the thing is spotless.

I'm not really one for barbeques, in fact we had the whole family round weekend before last, and I decided to do a sort of finger buffet type thing - see, the thing I don't get is what part of it seems to be a good idea; thirty degrees celcius in the shade, and there is a mad rush to light a bloody fire

    Lang may yer lum reek!

I did exactly the same with our gas barbeque until I got it out of the shed a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, over the winter, the whole thing had gone mouldy and was various shades of green - the gas burners, the tray underneath, and the lava rock. I had to bin the lava rock and buy new, and dismantle the barbeque and scrub it with cillit bang and a wire brush to get the worst off, then detergent and a scrubbing brush to clean off all the mould traces.

I have now taken to cleaning the burners etc after each usage to prevent any recurrance.
