I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to advise me on how difficult/easy it is to change the alarm module on an Audi A4 Cabriolet (2003)? Mine is playing up, chirping at me, making funny noises etc. and I suspect that because of the age of the car the internal batteries have had it.

I have seen other posts that refer to the alarm modules location on normal A4 cars but is the same for a cabriolet and how does one gain access to it?

Any help/advice would be most appreciated.

    Hi,

There are 2 modules in the Cab, one between the handbrake and the ash tray. not very difficult to get out but if you don't want to take the centre console apart you have to be careful. If you take out the ashtray (2 hex nuts) and remove the panel under the handbrake you can see it easily.

The second one is under the rear seat - very very easy to get at.

have you scanned your car to see where the problem lies? I don't think there is a battery in them though I could be wrong. I had to replace my front one as the alarm kept going off draining the battery.

    Walter.

the control units mentioned are the ultra sonic and you need to check the convenience control is in good order plus check the siren itself
goto the last activation of the alarm in mvb in address 46 to see if the cause is the siren
j393 convenience controls the anti theft system and the ultrasonic control units are inputs and the siren is a output from j393
if you establish what j393 is doing you will localise the fault

    good luck

Very many thanks for your replies guys. I think I should have been clearer in that it is the location of the alarm siren box that I am after. I know it is on the right hand side somewhere because i can hear it but how do you get access to it?

    Symptoms are:

    1. When setting the alarm using the remote the red LED in the door stays on before then beginning to flash and I understand this indicates a fault.
    2. The alarm siren keeps sounding for no apparent reason. However, when setting the alarm off on purpose by sitting in the car, locking the doors etc. using the remote, and then moving around to activate the sensors, the indicators flash but no alarm sound!

I don't have vag-com myself so it looks like a trip back to the garage on tuesday. Had it checked last week and (as is so often the case) it was working fine at the time of the test and so was advised not to have the alarm siren changed and see how it goes. That evening the alarm kept going off again.

the siren is awkward to access but if you have vcds go to interior monitor and adjust the sensitivity to 50% as from factory they are set to 100%
    Or post the fault codes.

to access the siren you need to remove the inner luggage trim

or remove the central locking fuse for a peaceful night until fixed
