I've just brought a 2006 A3 (55 plate). I have an issue with one of the keys - the remote unlocking doesn't work but I can start and drive the car with it. I don't have the SKU but wondered what can be done with VCDS to examine the problem. I can see that it reports Learned keys as "2" (and I have only 2 keys). Is there any other relevant information? I've tried the key programming procedure in the Audi manual but that doesn't seem to help any. Is going to the dealer my only option?

You don’t need the SKC to match the remote.

    Try this

    Channel 021: Remote Control Matching
    [Select]
    [46 - Central Convenience]
    [Adaptation - 10]
    Channel 021.
    [Read]

    • Choose the memory position you want the new key be matched on by entering it's number (e.g. "3" for memory positon 3). Make sure to TYPE IN the number instead of scrolling up to it, otherwise you will not be able to click [Test].
    [Test]
    • Now press any button on the remote you want to match.
    • The meas. block field above will change from Not Recogn. to Recognized.
    [Save]

    [Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Note: You can check the current memory positions using Meas. Block 007.

Thanks Crasher. Okay "key matching" is what I need (assuming that the remote control bit in the fob does work - it flashes red). I plugged my laptop in and had a quick look, key matching seems to be on channel 01 for me but I can use the instructions on the Ross Tech website now that I know it's key matching that I need. Laptop battery then died but I'll try tomorrow when I've retrieved my laptop PSU from a client and report back.

I followed the procedure above (it was channel 01 rather than 21 for my vehicle). However when I click TEST the test value is 1 instead of the 2 that I entered in the new value field. Looking at the Ross tech adaption page, the reason for the test failing like this is because I need to 'login' (i.e. I do need an SKU in this instance).

If I do indeed need this SKU, how can I retrieve it?

I can erase all the keys (channel 00). This definitely stops my working key from working. Then I am able to successfully test with 2 as the test value. When I save the value the second remote control is acknowledged by a flash of the indicators. However when I re-read the value it is 1 again and I'm back to the start with only 1 key working remotely.
