    Good evening all,

I've got a 52 plate A4 saloon 1.9tdi 130 and I bought a new pollen filter for it today. Trouble is I aint got a clue where the old one is and I don't have any manuals.

Can any of you people point me in the right direction please?

    Cheers
    SAmmy

Hiya, it's next to the battery underneath the black plastic below your windscreen. Dead simple, take the long piece of floppy rubber off which runs across the car and you can then remove the large plastic pieces and battery cover - from memory the filer has a black cover on it which will need to be removed - i think there are a couple of plastic/metal clips on it which may have a wire - just remove these carefully and you can then open it up and the old filter simply can be pulled out. Pop the new one in and put everything back!

I do have some photo's of how to do it when i did mine - PM me your email address and I will send them to you no no problem

You need to Remove the plastic cover over the battery area between the wipers and engine bay to do this you remove the rubber strip and the plastic cover will slide up and out towards the front of the car. you will see a black box under it on the passengerside the pollen filter is inside.

    Tags: A4, Audi, Cabin Filter

The cabin air circulation system in the A4 includes an air filter (sometimes called a pollen filter) than helps keep your car from feeling “not-so-fresh”. Part of scheduled maintenance is replacing the filter, but if your car is well out of warranty it’s possible it hasn’t been changed in many miles. Opinions vary about how often to change it, and depends on things like how dirty the air is outside and inside your car.
Symptoms of a worn out cabin filter include a smelly-socks odor. There are 2 types of cabin filters…. 1) Micro filter, 2) Charcoal Activated Filter. We recommend using the slightly more expensive Charcoal activated filter, as it will keep all the bad smells out of the car. There a a number of OEM and aftermarket cabin filters that meet the manufacturers specifications, these include Mann, NPN, Mahle, Bosch and of course Audi.

    TOOLS/SUPPLIES
    No tools required.

    PROCEDURE
The cabin filter is hiding at the back part of the engine compartment up near the passenger-side firewall. You will need to remove a few plastic bits to get at it. Note it might help to park your wipers in mid-sweep, so they don’t get bumped as you remove things, but this is not totally necessary.
Open the car’s hood. Right near the back there’s a long plastic shield that covers the battery area. This shield is held in place by weatherstriping material, which runs the entire width of the engine compartment. Note the plastic shield is a bit less extensive in ‘04+ cars.
The weatherstrip needs to be peeled away. Start pulling at one end and you’ll see it all comes out fairly easily:

Next pull the plastic shield toward you. It slides out fairly easily, no need to use excessive force:

The filter itself is in a little plastic box all the way to your left. It’s held shut with two little clips. Squeeze them and it pops open:

There’s that dirty little thing. Clearly it’s been neglected for quite a while!

Pull out the old filter, and pop in your new one. You shouldn’t need to push down too hard, and be careful not to warp or bend the filter as you slide it in. Note the direction of airflow arrow, which should point DOWN.

A word of caution here: the blower motor is right below the filter. If you drop some crud down there, it can get caught in there, or even cause annoying buzzing noises that will haunt you forever. So be careful to clear away any debris in your engine compartment before removing the filter.
Reassembly is, as they say, the reverse. Before that, take a second and wipe off the old dirt from all the pieces in there, just so everything is nice and tidy for next time.
Note that getting the filter cover and shroud back in place can be tricky as they have to slide back into place “just so”. Be patient and don’t force anything. Also make sure the shroud cover is lying perfectly flat in place before you place the weatherstrip back on, otherwise it won’t stay put.

PLEASE NOTE - on a right hand drive car, the filter is located on the NEARSIDE rather than RHD offside

    Rick

    All,

Got it changed in 5 mins tops, easy as pie.

Thanks again all for your help. I'm sure I'll be asking plenty more questions as the wifes car (A4) is getting on a bit and I have to all the bits, can't afford garages at the mo.

Will put some pics up when I get a chance but it's nothing flash, bit of a work horse to be honest but I look after it, best car we've ever had.

My little run around is a Renault Clio Williams 3 but that's another story for another website which I am on alot...........when it's broken! argh!

    Cheers
    Sammy
