I've had a tube of Turtle Wax Safe Cut for years, which always worked a treat on my old 1997 A3 and a Pug 106 of similar vintage (both metallic) for polishing out scratches and blending in touched-up paint work etc.

However, I've recently tried it on my (solid) Tornado Red 2009 Golf 6 (and a metallic 2005 Mazda 2), and it seems to be leaving a slight haze behind, which looks like micromarring on close inspection. Is this because the newer paints are softer than they were in the 90s, or have I just lost my touch?

Anybody else found this problem, or know of a similar product which is less likely to do this? From what I've read on other forums, Meguiar's Scratch-X 2.0 might have the same problem.
