Help needed. I have a 98 VW passat, 1.8 20v. I am getting a damp smell coming from the blowers once turned on, there is no damp inside the car, yet, and any info to help would be much appreciated before i stick it in to be looked at the local VW garage.

Have you, or anyone changed the pollen filter? mine was filthy , i guess never been changed . But check your carpets , they may feel dry on top get a hand under them they could be wet in the underfelt. You might be smelling that when the air is stirred up by the fan.

thansk for the reply, i have checked all the carpets on and under all throughout and there is def no damp inside the car, i have been told it could maybe be that the air con need flushing and re-gassing as the smell does not come through when the climatronic is turned off. The pollen filter was changed when i had a major service in oct 06.

I had that as a precursor to the scuttle leak that f*cked the ECU when the car flooded. Initially the the interior carpeting felt ok. Pull it up an check underneath, especially at the rear nearside.
