    Hi all,

Just bought my first Audi - A4 2.5 TDi with Auto/Tiptronic Gearbox. It is the B5 model. Around 2,000 miles ago it apparently had a gearbox fluid & filter change - although I have no proof of this.

    Symtoms are as follows:
    • Erratic revs while in gear - feels almost like clutch slip
    • Changes up and down from 2nd to 3rd on light acceleration before finally engaging 3rd
    • Intermittent juddering when engaging gears
It's much more noticable on gentle acceleration. Kickdown changes seem pretty smooth. Also more noticable in automatic mode rather than when using tiptronic.

Any ideas as to what could be causing it? Could it be that the incorrect fluid was used or maybe not enough fluid in the box?

    Thanks in advance!

Personally i would probably try changing the fluid to the correct type and quantity to see if this solves it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - have just drained the fluid out of it. There was only around 3 litres of it (instead of 9!). Presume it wasn't filled correctly when it was changed. Waiting for the new atf to be delivered then will hope for the best.

You cannot get all 9 liters out, because some of them stays in TQ Converter and the transmission itself. I think the change ( it is renewing actually) is about 5-6 l.
Please share the result when complete.
I have the same problem - the car shakes while up- and down shifting at 3rd gear (and may be 4th). In the beginning it shakes only when shifts up. Now i feel it also on shift down, when decelerating. Happens also in tiptronic.
Another symptom is that (only in D) there is small slip - it occurs only about 50-80 km/h, on 4 and 5 gear , about 1400 rpm's , when accelerating gently. If i push the pedal (with or without kick-down), the slip disappear. It is very smal slip and it is detected almost by unstable rpm's (+- 50 rpm's) noticed on the instrument. It seems like the transmission is not "sure" whether to shift down or not. The car is A6 C5 2.4 Quattro, the trans is 5HP19, VAG code = DEV
When i detect the problem, i changed the atf immediately(even it was used only 40k kilometers), but the shake and slip stayed. And After 3k km the problem disappear! I was happy for short, because the problem came again after next 2k km. This was very strange and i suspect the motor electronic for it and i cleared the throttle body and the air flow meter. No success. I replace the oil canals in the transmission, cleared it and I also exchanged the solenoids. Again without improvement. The oil is in very good condition. No errors recorded in Engine and automatic transmission electronic (checked with vagcom) I still have small hope that the problem is not in the TQ Converter, because it does not slip on high load.

Today i noted that the shake is even on 2nd gear. So I decided to do "stall test". During the test, there was initially high rpm's (big slip), going down with small vibrations and sound. The same is in Reverse gear. I think the TC will need replacing soon
