Has anyone had an electrical arcing sparking type noise coming from around the drivers side front wheel arch, bonnet area.

It sounds like it could be a relays contatcs chattering or arcing, maybe.

I thought initially it sounded like coolant or somehting depressurising or similar. Left it over night and still doing it as I approched the car in the morning.

Its been happening for a couple of weeks now.

Everything seems to work, not had a chance to get the wheel off and take wheel arch liner off yet. Hopefully this weekend I will.

    Any ideas??

Are your screen washers working ok. It shouldn't be a light fault because that would show on the dash.

I was thinking that the battery was on the other side!!!

Martin, I haven't checked the washers to be fair as I haven't needed them lately, I will check tomorrow though.

Hopefully finishing work early so will get the wheel arch lining off and have a look.

It's not the egr valve activating with the key in the ign is it, i.e hum/whirr type sound.

Got the wheel arch liner off and found a silver box with some wires going in to it.

    It has 3C0 951 227A and underneath that 3C0 951 209.

Wasn't sure if it might be the horn for the alarm?

Didn't want to fiddle too much just in case it was a crash sensor for airbags.

Any ideas, would VW tell me if I give the parts dept a ring?
Tried it in Google but not much luck.

Yes that's the alarm horn. The first part number is for the box which has the horn inside it. You should see that it is held on by two bolts which have no heads (shear bolts) You have to drill them out or try to tap them with a punch. Is it that box that is making the noise. A fault read of the convenience module should confirm the alarm horn is faulty. The unit costs about £100. It might be fixable.

Yep, its that box thats making the clicking noise. It wasn't as loud today as it was yesterday or other days.

I noticed the shear bolts. I am hopefully getting VCDS next week so will try checking it out then.

I'm not so worried now I know its the alarm horn, there is probabaly not even any arcing sparking going on, it's probably just static type noise.

Thank you Martin1810 and everyone else for replying, as ever I find this forum invaluable along with its great community spirit.
