It's wise to get some form of "signed on delivery" service - OK, you pay extra, but you include that with p&p charges. That way nobody can really argue - the item was signed for and can often be tracked online. Much of the stuff I buy comes that way and I am happy to pay the extra!

I must admit, I used DHL (booked through an agency - it's cheaper) and they were pretty dashed good for both large and small (for a tractor) items. I've heard others say they aren't though, perhaps I've been lucky!

I won't touch ebay anymore. Paypal ripped me off by freezing my account leaving me with buyers that never paid. Would have been simpler to give the items away and burn the money. Paypal did all of this because of "money laundering" . I was selling bits and bobs for 99p etc. I bet alot of crooks launder money 99p at a time. What a bunch of morons.

Usually you just advertise something as it is, take someone's money and post it to them, or better, have them collect it!

I fail to see the difficulty in it.

I used to think that. Until I found out you can get paid via paypal, send the goods and then paypal take the money back and give it to the buyer. You end up with no money and no goods and Paypal ignore you. That's why I won't use ebay anymore. They can't be trusted to police themselves.

I must say I was simplifying things a bit.

I still use eBay (I'm a 500+ seller with 100% positive feedback) and PayPal and have not experienced what you describe yet, though I've heard of it happening to other people on multiple occasions. The thought of it is worrying, I'll admit.

Same thing happened to me, but for £600 (i was the seller), he ended up relisting it and selling for £1200 iirc but they are chased me for the money, no seller protection from ebay/paypal at all. So now i just boycott them.

I phoned them as soon as i had figured something dodgy had gone on, ended up with the money clearing in my account, so i posted goods, but he cancelled his payment literally 1 minute after he made it claiming he never recieved the goods - ended up going through then getting my account frozen, he gets a refund and my goods and i got shafted.

The people on the customer help line at the time said everything would be fine and that they are investigating it. They did absolutely nothing, i sent them email after email and letters with proof. Got me nowhere, its a filthy joke this ebay/paypal deal.
