Now that the indicators work fine, I now have another problem !!

About 6 months ago, I fitted a new battery as the original one was knackered. Just recently, I had to fit a replacement sunroof/interior light panel as the original one fell out and wouldn't go back. I appreciate I don't use the car much but the battery seems to be flat all the time. After jumping the battery, I took the car for a spin the other day, for about 30 minutes or so and the next day it started fine. Now though the battery is dead again but I have noticed that even without the key in the ignition, the sunroof will open (albeit very slowly) so there is just enough power in the battery to do that. However, should the sunroof work even with no ignition key and any thoughts on why (since putting in a replacement sunroof/interior light panel) is the battery always dead ????

I might consider removing the interior light bulb just in case despite being off, power is going to it and draining the battery.

no it shouldnt is the easy answer.

is it just the sunroof or do the windows and any other peripherals turn on too?

hi, well today, the battery is completely dead and nothing works, not even the sunroof. I'll have to jump it and take it for a run of about an hour so as to get a decent charge into it. Have to wait until the weekend now though.

The car won't even start via jump leads now so christ knows what is going on. Seems like the power from the donor battery is not getting through. Maybe time for a new battery charger and/or leads !!

On a sperate, but related note, and once the car is running again, is there any simple way of checking the battery is holding it's charge ? When the car is running, the amp meter in the dash shows 14v or there abouts so it is charging when running according to that, but the battery doesn't stay charged as I am experiencing now !

Car started ok on Saturday after a jump start. I took it for a spin, about 6 miles and the amp meter on the dash was readying 13v constantly. Sunday, it started fine and again, 13v showing. Today, dead again !!!!!!!!!!!

Windows, sunroof etc do not function as presumably not enough juice in the battery.

something is constantly draining the battery, or the battery you bought is already knackered (6 months try taking it back) other than that what your best bet maybe until you find a definite solution is to carry around a booster pack with you.

there is a way to test if a battery is holding charge or not with a voltmeter but it was so long ago since i saw the AA do it i have forgotten, sure you can google it though

I carry a booster pack in the boot but even that sometimes won't start it. I did wonder if the new battery is a dud but I can't take it back as the shop has closed down !!
