    hi guys,

did not want to hijack the other thread regarding the loud engine..

Recently my car has developed zero power and a very loud engine, probably louder than a tractor (i'm not even joking)... the power has totally gone even though it wasn't as quick as other 2.5 tdi's, but not its very slow cant even get up a hill.
    Any ideas?

Been to a few mechanics, one is saying the turbo has gone again (there is no smoke by the way),
second one is saying your engine is shot,
third one which is my main mechanic, who did all the work recently when my turbo messed up (££££), said he thinks the timing is out and needs checking, so he is going to strip it down on monday (timing belt was changed 30k ago)

Are any of these correct??? i am hoping it is the timing

    thanks

If it is not the camshafts and associated bits breaking up as in the recent post, it could be the camshaft tensioner bolt that has sheared. this happened on my car and luckily there was no cobsequestial damage.
A broken bolt will ofcourse cause the fuel injection timming to be out.

Pull the left cam cover (it is slightly easier to remove than the right) and check the lobes for wear and thrown cam levers.

If a mechanic says the engine is gone without any explanation, then you should change your mechanic. What he appears to be saying is that he has not a clue. You say he has stripped it down in our prevous posts. Ask what the faults are and post these here. Withot the stripdown info, it is difficult to make an assessment
Try C&R enterprises in Nottingham. Vagcom is unlikely to tell you anything useful with thye symptoms yo have. Remove head covers and timing covers. The visual inspection will probably reveal the cause.

If the timing is out can it cause these symptoms?

The valve and/or pump timing being out can make a diesel sound terrible.
