Just wondering whether anyone can give me some pointers here...

I have the 2-tone grey trim on my dash (silver dotted in the middle, dark grey dotted across the centre). I also unfortunately have a 10cm or so scratch on the piece above the glove box. I can either pay £18 for a new piece from VW, or attempt to customise the whole strip myself.

Is there any point in trying to customise this myself, or is it going to look like a real bodge job? I know that you can get some adhesive vinyl with effects off ebay, but a bit unsure about fitting this to a high standard on the dash. Ideally I would like to buy one of the dash kits, but with just the upper part, not the whole 28pcs!

So, £18 for a proper replacement, or self-customisation? And yes, the scratch does bother me this much!

    Thanks!
    Paul

£18, that's interesting, I fancy replacing mine with a light wood effect one, can you ask how much the clocks one will be and the little centre bridging one as well if you go in again, given a sticky kit can be £100+ to have it in original spec for potentially less than £50 is very appealing, mind you for some reason if you spec it new in another trim it's £250 option.

Mine has the same dash patamolin.

I remember around 10 yrs ago I purchased the stick on dash kit. And it looked pretty good.

Anything to make your car look a little different. Just curious how many variations are there? Any ideas?

I think i have seen a thread on here where a guy - taxi driver i think, painted (or wrapped) a black pasty white.

He has wrapped the grill at the front with some carbon looking film (3m stuff)

Looked like a good finish from the photo's

Maybe this is the way forward.

My irritating part is a chip in the chrome bit on the top of my DSG shifter. I did it with the corner of the radio when i had it out once. I had thought of replacing it with a ED30 Golf one but the button is in the wrong place so didnt want to risk buying it for it now to fit.

Have a look at ebay.de there is loads of stuff on there that we do not see coming up in UK, they do seem to have quite a few trim kits most of the time. use babelfish to give you a near as damit translation.

Well it was £18 for the glovebox strip, in the standard grey finish. I'm guessing the dials are a lot more expensive (more area, die cut holes). I still think the wooden finish kits on ebay will be far cheaper than the proper VW ones.

Yeah I rang today, £60 for the clocks in grey, and £140 in Burr Nut, still if you add the 3 pieces up they still come to less than to spec Burr at new at £295, and it's a simple job to do, and you get to keep the old ones to flog as well, so if anyone is thinking of speccing wood, don't, buy it afterwards and save yourself a few quid.
