Just thought having finished fitting another addition to my car, I'd share a few pics seeing as the weather was nice this evening... No photos of the exterior - too dirty, and in any case a standard SE passat with standard 16" wheels isn't that exciting!

Rear parking sensors - from ebay, colour coded and fitted to factory spec positions...

Gentex auto dimming mirror with compass - just fitted, easy to do thanks to help from this forum, and a good fit too - came from US ebay for the massive price of $40! Luckily it also came with a wire cover that extends right to the roof liner for a very OEM finish.

Interior - nothing really - just the silver finish on the bottom of the wheel. I did have a Sony Bluetooth single din stereo, but couldn't live with the non-oem finish and no auto volume (important to me!) Gone back to the RCD and an xcarlink ipod module.

Chrome Grill - probably the 'must do' mod for us all! Just done the top section only, cost was £9.99 from Halfords...

Thanks for looking! Want to do a fair bit more, but with child no. 2 on the way imminently, won't be able to afford the front fogs. I would like to put a different finish on the upper dash grey strip, but unsure whether it will look tacky and wrong.

Good work! Subtle simple mods are always best imo. Makes it personal without being in your face.

looks good mate, i wasnt sure about the halfords chrome strips but they seem to fit perfectly! Might give that a go at the weekend

How easy is it to fit the mirror? I fancy one of these, but would it be worth it as Im getting the windows tinted?

The mirror was by far the easiest to fit (you'd have thought the chrome grill was the easiest but you have to make sure the strips are dead straight!).

All that was needed was the mirror and a wedge mount adapter. The wiring is really easy as you have a simple power source in the interior lights unit. Just thread the wires from the mirror through the roofliner and you're done. Mirror turns on with unlocking of the car, turns off with the locking of the car.

Whether you'll benefit from the mirror and the tinted glass I'm not sure. I wouldn't say it's worth getting just for a compass/temp display (though it is a nice addition) but maybe you see how effective the tinted glass is.?

I have the auto dim mirror as standard, however I like the compass bit! Is this a straight swap or a case of cutting wires? Cheers

the compass comes built in with a lot of gentex mirrors, of which a lot are around on ebay US... you'd have to buy the complete unit though, and if you've got the auto dimming mirror as standard, you won't have the standard VW twist-lock I don't think. You have to get a wedge adapter to get these gentex mirrors to fit).

No that's not the stuff - I got a 7mm x 3 or 4 metre roll - 3mm will be too thin as it has to sit right on the edges of the slats in the grill. 7mm is just perfect.

    Something not too dissimilar to

Think I may have to look into Auto hold - however does it work with a manual gearbox, as I though its main use would have been with an auto, as there's no clutch....

    ?
    Thanks.
