Hi there, for the last 3 months my audi 80 estate diesel has been squeaking around the front. I have done the obvious by changing the belts. It solved nothing so I changed the belt tensioner and again nothing. I have also changed alternator, nothing. I tried wihth one belt on at a time, still squeaky.
The interesting thing is that the squeak stops when you have done a long journey.
    What do I do next

Sounds like something has expanded (when hot) after a long journey and become taught, stopping the squeaking, fans next???

Found my stone guard on the front brakes catching at the weekend, could it be wheel based??

Hi there definatley not wheel based. it is the same pitch at idle as when the car is moving. Like I said after a long journey it stops. Possible oil pump? Then again wouldn't the car of blown up by now?

It is possible that the squeal is from the crankshaft pulley. The ribbed pulley can slip on its rubber cushion. (causing squeal). It can be worse after start up for a
few moments, probably when there is big demand from altenator to recharge. Another possibility is the P/S belt if not tight enough.
