    Hi

I have a 1999 2.0 (APK) MK4 Golf GTI Hatchback, I recently fitted an OS front Hub carrier which was sourced from a breakers. on the paperwork which came with it, it says it came off a MK4 golf 2.0 Estate. It looked the same to me so i put a new bearing and new abs sensor in and fitted it to my own car.

I noticed on the first long drive that the car was pulling to the left but thought it must be my tracking or camber, at first glimps you could see that the camber was way off so i got a friend to get the car on a ramp and it turns out that the distance between the wheel and shock is differnt on both sides (12mm difference) which indicates that the new hub carrier is either bent or is the wrong part.

Can anyone advise if the hub carrier from a 2.0 Mk4 golf estate is different to that of a mk4 2.0 golf GTI hatchback?

    Thanks

The right front “wheel bearing housing with pad carrier” for a Golf hatch with an APK engine and 280-mm discs is 1J0 407 256 AG which was 1J0 407 255 AJ until it changed part number on 01/02/2006. The carrier is suitable for all Golf 4 with 280-mm brakes with the cast in pad carrier, the only not R32 alternative is the 256 disc housing and the housing for cars with a bolt on caliper carrier. I think the carrier you have must be bent, they do bend very easily.
