    hello,

I've just replaced the front brake pads on my a4. I'm no mechanic and I just want to make sure I haven't screwed my brakes. Should the rotor/disc spin freely? I found it hard to turn the rotor/disc with the new brake pads installed, is this normal? I went for a drive to test the brakes, and found that I really had to give it gas, felt like I was towing with a trailer...if you know what I mean..it felt like the pads were too tight against the rotor/disc. After 10 mins or so I noticed a burning smell. I also felt the wheels after the test drive and they were rather hot. The brakes worked really well and really noticed the difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

Thanks for the link. Sorry, but the info mentioned on that page didn't really answer my question. I've since checked both front brakes again, removing and replacing the pads. I think I just needed to wear the brakes in as everything seems to be working fine now. No smell and no excessive heating.

No I didn't. I realize now that I should of. Lucky enough for me I didn't do any damage to the brake system. Few weeks on and everything works fine.

    Thanks for your reply.
