mk3 rubbing noise

Hi all, I have a 1997 Golf estate TDi and when it's on full lock right, there is a rubbing sound coming from the nearside wheel area, sounds like the mudflap rubbing on the wheel or something like that but I have had a look and can't see anything close. Could this be the cv joint? I thought these only clicked.

While I'm here, there is a clunck from the same area when reversing, mainly when dropping off curbs etc. I used to know what this was but I'm getting old and forgetful ...

if its a single knock then its probably the wheel bearing tilting in the hub
rubbing noise could be anything from disc backplate to driveshaft
