My A4 SE has developed an odd problem!

First of all it opened it's own boot lid while left parked on two separate occasions. The dealer looked at it and found no recorded fault and couldn't find any obvious problem, they reset the central locking and adjusted the boot catch.

Yesterday after several weeks interval since the previous incident, the car did the same again, while standing outside the house - however this time it also opened both front windows fully!

This is an obvious problem in that I don't feel confident to leave the car parked in a street or public car park, which I have to do regularly and also if it opens up in heavy rain the interior would get soaked.

It's back with the dealer, again no faults showing. they are keeping it for a few days to investigate thoroughly and hopefully get to the bottom of the problem. I wondered if anyone had encountered a similar problem and might be able to suggest a cause?

PS I've been lent an A6 Avant - wish my car's steering was as good!

No not the problem here for certain - no kids in the house and it's not possible to open the windows from the key.

Are you sure - I thought it was a standard feature that the windows could be opened with the key.

I don't think so, I can't check with the handbook as that's in the car which as I said is at the dealer, I mentioned this when there and wasn't contradicted by the 2 people who heard me say it.

At the time of the first 2 instances of the boot opening the car was not set to open the boot from the key and in any case the first time the key was well out of range of the car. It has been recently set to open from the key, but I don't believe it could have been operated accidentally.

My car did this overnight. parked up at 6pm, left keys on mantelpiece. took dog for walk at 9pm and fine and dandy then. keys not touched but when i opened the front door at 6am to walk the dog again the boot was pointing skywards, and car keys still sitting on mantelpiece. !! good job my house is tucked away... Total Mystery but the dealer said i must have pressed the button myself without realising.... erh nope.. the keys were still where i left them the night before....

    who knows... ?

The problem with my car which prompted me to start this thread appears to have been solved by the replacement of the Convenience opening unit, which handles boot and window opening.

The boot was definitely opening without input from the key, but having had this unit replaced 7 weeks ago, there has been no repetition - just hope I'm not speaking too soon!

Once again full marks to Tetbury Audi for their handling of it and service provided.
