Nicely done - I used a proper CAN BUS adapter for my Passat installation which I have since used in my Golf in exactly the same way - didn't have to mess about finding a switched live feed either which is always a bonus

I hope you do a cleaner job than me

I've done it today, I'm not happy with it tbh and it's gonna have to come out and be re-fitted, I had to use a dash adapter that needed the middle bar cut out, this I think and the cage tabs have very slightly left a gap above the unit, the actual install though went quite well, I've recycled a DVB-T mobile unit so I can watch the World Cup soon, this linked in nicely, can't get a signal yet cos it only works in certain places due to the weak transmission, the usb port flap is stuck open, last night I couldn't open it, then it did, I've seen a U tube video where the user also struggles to open it, sadly the USB doesn't do video, all video has to be on disk, music plays fine though, which brings me to my next stump, mini USB, do you think anyone stocks then on the shelf, not a chance, what I really want is a bluetooth sized one, y'know the ones that look like a thick fuse.

With this ignition thing, am I right in thinking you break apart the red wire bullet and tag a new wire onto something that only works when the key goes in, or is there more to it than that, I suspect problems with just wanting to turn the unit on without the key then, if you could find a serial number for that canny unit harness I'd be very grateful.

Got my new screen today as well, no more peering through a half mended bullet hole.

Oh one other thing, mine has a twin fakra, as I only had a single one I used the white one and the radio is good, in the coffee coloured one the signal was useless, anyone know why two connects and only one seems to do the job?

Have you got any pictures of any of it?

The fascia (surround) I used was from a Passat B6 and that worked just fine - if that helps.

One aerial connection carries AM and FM, the other carries FM (as I believe)... The VW units will cleverly switch between each antenna (either in your rear side windows in an estate, or in the rear heating element in a saloon) to pick the best signal. Even the best twin fakra to single DIN aerial connections don't do proper 'diversity reception'...

Regarding the ignition feed, just make sure the 12v line out from the stereo is spliced into something that only comes on with the ignition - one of the connections in the fuse box is your best bet - easy to get access to.

Yet another hurdle that wasn't explained to me surfaced tonight, this 3100 Pioneer unit plays DivX files, all of them and including V6, not so, I have a lip sync problem and some jam up when searching for advanced frames, then I find in the gumph * does not play HD files* well it does to a degree, but it's picky, from what I can make out the bitrate needs to be lowered on the files, I'm just trying one of the problem ones out now, I've used DivX 5 this time to encode it, bigger file mind you, also it has a USB port, great two ways to play files, err no! for some reason the USB only plays music media, not video, gotta be a penny pinch FW thing imo, right now I'm wishing I'd gone up the smoke and had a browse in the shops, the whole thing cost me £60 more than buying online, and I'm now at the stage where I could've got one I really wanted with the proper kit for a few quid more, don't get me wrong, it's a lovely unit, but the file thing, and the fact I had murder's getting the USB flap up, and now it won't close either has rather taken the edge off things.

This live wire, do I retain the red wirw connection right through the harness/iso block, or do I split it and just take power from the fuse box, i.e one line unbroken with an add on wire going to the fuse, or stop the connection as it reaches the first breakout point and then go to the fuse leaving the rest of the red wire on the harness unconnected?

I have to remove my stereo tonight as I've sold it, so I will try to take a pic or two of how the wiring works out...

The harness adapter I had from connects2 had the red power lead connected to it. So from the harness adapter, the red power lead threads itself through the dashboard to the fusebox..
