but actually i was surprise to discover it came from the area just above the glove box. Basically if i pressed really hard with my fingers just above the glove box door at the far right corner of the dash (where the dash connect to the centre console), all the noises seemed to disappear.
as i said it sound unlikely especially as the noise initially sounded like a buzzing more metal like noise, and not plastically, but i took it in to the dealer they striped the dash, and built it back it back on with a sticky foam between each parts. for now, it seems to have done the trick and i hope it stays like that.
its worth a try, might be the same problem.
As to the B Pillar, yes i have that too, but i was way to occupied with the dash rattles at the moment!
    hope this helps
I have this but I haven't taken it into the dealer, as I'm concerned that they'll just create more rattles. Hearing this is making me think ago however.

Does anyone else have the rattle fromt he chrome trim around the rpm or speedo gauges? The plastic chrome trim my RPM gauge rattles and buzzes like anything on any but the smoothest of roads. I'm wondering if this silver trim is serviceable or if the entire unit needs replacing?

HHGTTG - my ticking noise stops when I squeeze the top of the glovebox with fingers either side of the lip. You can see where the glovebox plastic meets that of the upper dash...I believe the noise is created by contact between these parts.

You'd have thought they save themselves all this hassle by lining the contact areas with foam in the first place!!

The 'ticking' I refer to comes from the door/door cards but he buzzing/rattles comes from the fascia area and is brought on by coarse road surfaces and/or heat.

I will add to this frustrating story as the other day, during a session of dashboard noises, I came to a stop and opened and shut my driver's door only to hear what appeared to be that rattle from behind the dashboard. Howeve,r I pulled my seat as near to the steering wheel as was possible and then kept on opening and closing my door, quite forcibly and realised that the rattle was not coming from the dash at all but from above my head - It was coming from the damned sun visor!!

Since then I have confirmed thatIi can control or eliminate the buzz/rattle by repositioning the visor or sliding open the cover that exposes the mirror.

Anyway that's my source of the suppose fascia/dashboard rattle (believe it or not) and it just demonstrates how sound travels and can appear to come from places where it doesn't originate. I will now have to think of a permanent, unobtrusive cure unless I can get the dealers to replace the driver's visor altogether.

Have the same. I thought it was coming from behind the centre heater vents but like you, found it was coming from the sliding mirror cover. If I keep the cover open then it doesn't buzz/rattle but that's not practical if the visor is down, as the courtesy light remains on. I'll see what my local VW say about it.

A replacement is about £70 ex parts dept. They would not fit one under warranty, for me, unless they could reproduce the noise which of course they could not unless they were prepared to undertake a long-ish journey under the conditions necessary to start it up.
I only wish that I could now find out why my driver's door/window has suddenly started to creak when traversing bad roads, humps etc at low-ish speeds. Suddenly started about two weeks ago out of the blue - as they all do.

Changed my Mark 5 Gti for MK6 GT Tdi. Mark 5 was a solid and quiet car, not a squeak or a rattle. My mark 6 has a constant rattle in the rear passenger side door panel and a creak in the front passenger door. I would have my mark 5 back tomorrow.
