I do find the cost of these parts offensive... VW will sell you a brand new golf TDI for £24,000 or so... but I would hazard a guess that if you went to the parts desk and asked them to price up each and every part for the car the collection would probably cost over £100,000... a set of injectors, flywheel, turbo and cat send you well on the way to the price of the whole car when new!

i've got an 04 golf gt tdi 2.0 66,000 i had it new , it started rough idling at 3,000 mile when hot, slowly got worse not terrible but worser.
then at 45,000 i took the injectors out and had them tested and one was low on the low delivery out put of the injector, which made sense the engine was'nt getting enough fuel and making it run uneven when idling, only when hot tho
the diesel injection bloke said he could adjust the injector but had'nt had perfect results in the past of rebuilding or adjusting, in the end said he had adjusted it so it was nearer to what it should be but not perfect
i put them back in and he was exactly right it was better than it was, but was not perfect, he did say that they were all out a bit but one was out alot which would cause the problem i had, cost was £150
tried loads of things before i came down to injectors, it seems the tdi 2.0 does suffer from this injecter problem on some cars
my mate had a new car same as mine same model same time his was alot worse than mine, and he kept taking it to the dealer and they never did get it running right, so i did'nt bother taking mine in to the dealer when it was in warranty until they fixed his, lol
i've got bosch injectors in mine which are normaly good, but they did'nt get some of these quite right !

Hi, Interesting read so far with many of you offering different solutions..

Anyway I have the VW golf mk5 manual 04 plate now on 76K have had cambelt change and had my yearly service done just last week.

I have had the same problem over a year now and its been occurring when I start the engine and even when its fully warmed up (though when fully warmed up its alittle less but when jsut started its very violent) and was originally diagnosed as faulty glowplug. So right now only have 3 glowplugs working was told by VW garage and VW specialist Nirro that its probably the glowplugs and the loom.

So having the glowplugs and loom changed next week, so lets see what will happen and will report back on this..

Also a new problem just occurred for last 3 weeks the car when its fully warm @ traffic lights the rev counter revs up to 1k and just stays there but if I carry on driving and stop again at lights it goes back to normal idle around 0.8k revs.

    Thanks

    Nasfire

Possibly a faulty pedal, next time it sticks, put your toe under it and give it a gentle lift up.
