Hi everyone, CAR: Golf MK3 1.4CL AEX

Replaced my air filter the other day [which was filthy with oil and gunk] and saw that the throttle was fairly crudey as well. So I had a 5 second google and found carb cleaner as the answer.

So after getting home from halfords with the spray I got cold feet about the logistics of it all so here's the question:

Can I simply clean the throttle body without removing it i.e. by spraying onto a cloth and wiping the gunk off? And would this do anything at all?

So if I can't do it this way I will take it out and clean it I guess. But:

    >will I have to do a reset to erase the learnt values i.e. will it end up idling at 2000rpm? [Crasher mentioned this in a post I saw earlier]

    >And is there anything else I should watch out for?

    Cheers,

    K

OK so found this thread I should have read first:

    Throttle Body Cleaning 1.6 AEE

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...tle+body+clean

So this guide is for an AEE 1.6 I presume this should work for mine.

If anyone has any caveats please let me know, I'll post how I get on as well
