Buying used from a VW dealer

Hi everyone,

Found a Golf over the weekend at a VW dealer, went out on a test drive and it seems very good. Only thing is when we came to talking money the saleman added a years tax to the advertised price.

Is this normal practice? Seems a bit underhand to me!

I - personally - wouldn't expect to get a years tax free. It's something I'd try and negotiate myself, along with fuel. Don't be afraid to ask. If you don't ask you don't get. If the deal does not suit just walk away.

Done! Maybe not very well, but trade in price was good, car price is within my budget and I'm now the happy soon to be owner of a Mk5 GT 2.0 TDi DSG.

Didn't get much off the price, but did get the tax + tank of diesel thrown in.

Good stuff. I found it difficult to get the dealer to budge on the price of my Jetta when buying, but managed to get an extra £500 for my trade in, 2 tanks a diesel and first service done for nothing. Don't think that's to bad really.
